I usually find that it’s the people who accuse players of having ‘a heart the size of a pea’ whose arses are usually the first to drop.
I'm just trying to keep looking at the positives anyway. I'm not happy about the situation and I doubt many at the club are. And whilst the "1 win in 8" stat is very true and very scary, our players have also improved quite a lot since then. The likes of Diallo and Roberts had barely got going this season during that period. We also didn't have Ballard at the back blocking the **** out of everything. It's strangely a very different team to then. And that only really becomes a problem anyway if Gelhardt is missing. Until then he can be the body that harries the defender and holds it up for the likes of Diallo, Clarke, Roberts and Pritchard.
Just think it's a massive risk and a opportunity missed to push on. But aye. We have some good players. No doubt about it. Just feel we are significantly short in a key area again.
Yeah, of course it is. But I don't think its a risk thats been intentionally taken. Its a risk that has been agonisingly forced upon them. They may well even still be trying to not have to take that risk.
The main and most frustrating restriction for me would be if we’re chasing a game we can’t throw on more strikers. There’s more than one way to skin a cat though (is that the saying? It doesn’t read right. I’m going to stop drinking).
Imho (& perhaps others?) The team is weaker tomorrow, 1st Feb than it was 1st Jan. Surely that is not part of a grand plan.. Ie do not wish to get promotion this season....ffs
Exactly! Against Fulham we were still a threat. Diallo is playing as a 10 now and is in far better form than back then. That’ll make a huge difference.
Guess it depends how good Ekwah and Lihaji are. But yes - it was always going to be weaker with Stewart gone. We were never replacing him like for like. And as mentioned loads above, could definitely have done with another striker.
Lihadji isn’t a striker like, has never played that position in his career. Hopefully Mowbray gets the best out of him though. Got high hopes after seeing the videos of him, looks a good prospect.
I think the regime that we now have in place is so far removed from where we were when dumb and dumber were running the club , a lot of people have very very short memories and is endemic of the I want and I want it now syndrome that exists in our society now . I for one believe that all of the management will be gutted that they were unable to bring in the players that TM would have liked as well as the supporters but unfortunately we look like we will have to go with what we have and let’s be honest what we already have certainly aren’t shabby . As supporters we have to really get behind the team as we always do , well most of the time anyway , the young guns will try their hearts out.
The team or the squad? The team was always going to be weaker as Stewart is out from it. We’ve no idea on the squad though until we see more of Geldhardt, Lihadji, Ekwah etc.
I was far more disappointed in Speakman a year ago when he signed a knackered old number 9 that was never going to contribute anything whatsoever. Maybe he learned not to be conned again into signing a player that does not fit. If he has learned from that debacle good on him.
Its a good point. Perhaps he's been so scarred by Defoe that he's not wanted to go anywhere near a deadline day striker since
