I took five minutes to do some statistical research on strikers in true SR style. I have identified Fran Navarro as our top target. He has been involved in 65% of his teams goals in liga NOS. Scoring goals in a terrible team is not an issue for Fran.
It all depends I think on what we think we can still do in the window. If we've earmarked Sulemana as another attacker but are still hoping to bring in a striker as well then I'd imagine the price is too high for us. If we've run out of options and it's Sulemana or nobody, then I'd hope we go that high. That said I'd imagine he'd rather go to Everton anyway tbh. They'll outbid us and will offer higher wages so seems like another potential deal dead in the water from our pov.
Don’t see how that is news really. Of course they have to make do with them if they don’t sign another striker
Is there reporting that says it is up front? Or just that it is a 40m initial fee with add ons taking it to 45m. Those are two very different things
Well listening to NJ in his press conference on transfers l it doesn’t sound very encouraging. SR messed up in the summer by not getting a deal done for a striker, and sounds like they won’t spend the necessary money to get one now. All our rivals have strengthened (a few significantly). IMHO we will get relegated with this team as not enough goals in it and with an inexperienced premier league manager. Us and Bournemouth plus one other to go down.
So "internally" the club have told some spotty little wannabee journalist we're prepared to make do? Righto then.
I think they will spend the money (within reason) I just don't think the player is out there this month (which, as you say, puts the failure to recruit one in the summer into perspective). West Ham now looking for a striker too. It's not like anyone around our level is signing strikers that are making me think "oh man, can't believe we missed out on that one".
I just watched the pre-Newcastle press conference and Jones said himself that he doesn't want to get someone in who isn't an improvement, so it would be very easy to turn that into "the club being prepared to make do with Adams and Mara" without actually having inside info. What I do find annoying, unless I've got this wrong, is that the club always seemed keen on adding a winger AND a striker, and now the noise is all about "adding one if we can."
The club did tell us that we were in for an exciting couple of weeks. I guess exciting must mean frustration and disappointment in Danish
Theyve got ridiculously 'generous' existing contracts to service, they're still very much in the financial do-do.
