Jones will never be more than a squad player. I haven't seen enough of Fab Cav to make the same conclusion yet. He's still got time to impress.

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, can't be arsed to search, but Klopp's remarks regarding Salah were surprising.

I love Salah to bits, but to come out and say he's struggling because of an inability to get Klopp's key players on the pitch together for long enough (the Echo) and lack of continuity in the forward line (The Independent) sounds like a poor excuse to me. He's on something like 350K a week.FFS. He should know how to adapt and for me that's been the problem: none of them have been able to. Injuries happen and it's called having a squad

You do realise they play against top players don't you?

A player can be the best in the world but if the team isn't setup right, they'll struggle.

And I'm certainly not over to defend Salah, he's been ****e for over a year now

frankly there's a basic level salah should be giving and klopps two different messages do not add up.

First he says the side is not compact enough. that the forwards need to close down and make the pitch small.

then he says salah is struggling due to having inconsistent team mates and such.

salah isn't pressing enough. he's standing about half the time not getting in and about. the difference for 60mins v the band average wolves when Elliott played up was ****ing massive.

salah should be leading the others and encouraging them to push up.

gakpo actually only too about a week to get what he needed to do to close down

salah needs to start pressing and if that means 60mins not 90 do be it. that's my.firm opinion at this point.

Salah hasn't been world class for over a year now. I don't know what it is he has lost... But he's lost it.

All those questions over the summer "should we be selling Salah"... The answer is now obvious, "yes, we should have". His value in the summer was high enough we could have financed part of the rebuilding of "LFC Klopp 2.0" now he's what, £30mil to a club wanting a big name.

Most important Liverpool player for a generation, I don't think it's a coincidence we get bad when he loses his spark.

That's not saying he's our worst player, he clearly isn't. He's still a fairly decent player, just not worth his salary and his age, wage, and rapid deterioration means he doesn't hold a great resale value. Any club buying him would be wary of his over a million a month wages.

Just want this season to end now. I'd bite your hand off for 8th place. We're absolutely ****ed getting anybody decent in the summer - I bet even Gakpo (who had his best game for us so far today tbf) is probably thinking "Why the **** did I come here instead of United?". This isn't decline though - we've full right off a ****ing cliff with an anvil attached to our feet. Was totally apparent in that first, dire game at Fulham - and we've done NOTHING to address it. :(

I like Batejic, but it's desperate by the club to try and get this kid to solve our midfield catastrophe. He's good, but so was Jones three or four years ago.

Wow, who would have thought Mito would be the voice of optimism? <laugh>

You're right though, as bad as this season has been, I don't think this is a long term decline. It's part fatigue, part changing of the guard, part lack of hunger and a major dose of inertia. It's hard to correct a losing mindset. The players have started to accept that losing is 'ok'.

On paper we still have a lot of quality. We may be playing bad, many of our best players are aging... But we still have a large number of players with improving years ahead of them and a few midfielders would make the world of difference. When the centre of the field doesn't function neither can the rest of the team.

Well, Bajetic is good and despite the criticism at least Gakpo tries, but yeah it was same old today. I had to laugh at someone on Twitter looking to sign Mitamo. Why TF would he want to come to us?

It is rather incomprehensible that his form can become so bad. Of course goal scorers rely on service from the midfielders but with the ball at his feet near the goal whereas last season he would inevitably at least work the keeper this season he doesn’t even have a go or if he does it’s meek. Like his confidence is completely shot. This is all on him not his supply.

You just to wonder whether the problem is the hunger and desire. Last seasons he was playing for a trophy he’s not won before, and/or an improved contract. This season, he’s sated. He’s won the trophies and he has got his big new contract. His hunger has been sated and his on pitch form reflects this.

Its the same reason why all the good Brighton players will want to move eventually, just look at Caicedo, and its the same as Leicester had.

Doesn't matter if they do make European, they are still Brighton (and that's not being mean about Brighton).

They can't pay the same as an Arsenal or Chelsea or Man U etc. And the club don't have the name, like the previously mentioned or ourselves or any of the other big European teams
