Surprised you've commented so early. Was expexting that post from you after Gordon has been with us for 10 years and been awarded player of the season yet again.

Of course he is mate ...this lot think they know better than professional scouting networks.

See ekitike for further details... or maybe the Joelinton to cm thread

Chris Wood - 8 goals in the last 50 appearances
Antony Gordon - 7 goals in the last 58 appearances

This "dud" is outscoring "one of England's hottest prospects"

    Really not much wow.

I completely trust the club, manager and process and the player will get my full backing when he pulls on the shirt (except if he starts diving in the same way he did for Everton - hate that).

However, he isn't on the cusp of the England team (like many young players are). He isn't anywhere near the top of the stats charts (like many young players are). He's a prospect. That is all.

Gordon certainly wasn't on my 'wish list', but I'd much rather have him in our squad than see us play against him. He's one of those irritaring players other teams dislike (fans included). But maybe that's not a bad thing to have in the squad. Either way, I trust the club's judgement over my bit-part 'expertise'.

He's a winger and they look at all the metrics these days... it's moneyball now..

Believe it or not they build functioning teams.

How many did Almiron get is Bruce's newcastle?

Essentially you and many others have concluded you know better than the club, the scouts and Ashworth and I'm afraid you don't.

You can be an arrogant prick at times Munse.

What people are doing is expressing an opinion - most of them while admitting that they will trust the club and the process. There's nothing wrong with saying someone isn't who you would have gone for, or saying you dislike something about a player.

Bellingh, Saka etc already in the full team and the likes of Kane, Sterling, Grealish etc were at his age.

Anyone can be touted as one of England's best, but I see no evidence so far, so the proof will be in the performances.

This is a fair comment and I'd like to add

    Burn
    Targett
    Wood
    Pope
    Guimareas
    Isak

Probably weren't on anyones list either... or are people going to pretend they'd scouted them for years?

The responses was made in return to one of sarcasm and your reply is one of an unpleasant nature because your ego was touched .

    Totally unnecessary

Calm down you're getting dangerous again

No, I've concluded that I don't have the basis so say he's one of England's best young players yet, and the only proof of anything will be how he performs. What I saw of him at SJP was bad, and that's my only real basis.

And he's listed as a forward, so if he's a winger, replacing a forward with a winger seems odd.

None of those were on my list. When I heard about them I was excited by Pope, Guimaraes and Isak, but not at all by Burn or Wood. Like we are doing here, we expressed opinions, supported the player and the club, and happy when proved wrong.

He's 21 played for England u21s he's he's winger and has full Premier league experience and has just sold for 45 million.

Like I said thst should be enough to tell the guy in the street .

I'll repeat that I'd he'd signed from Brazil and people had never seen him play they'd be lapping it up.

No, you're trying to put forward opinion as fact and belittling other peoples opinions. Why are you so insecure of your own opinions that you need to try and smash any alternatives?

Yes we were expressing opinions but i hadn't resorted to sarcasm in response to anyones and certainly didn't jump to being aggressive and insulting.

I think people need to calm down... I'm the positive one here BTW so given the abuse I got for years for the opposite of that I think this little episode is notable.

I'll make my point and debate it that's all I'm doing you're all entitled to think you know better than the club and its scouts.

    Happy days lads

The price level means nothing - remember we signed Luqie for £12m and Boumsong for £8m when these both were huge amounts of money. Also any old crap can play for England U21 so I'm not buying that.

The real proof is in how him performs in the Prem, and what I've seen hasn't been all that so I'm entitled to express scepticism, particularly if this is our big marquee signing of the window. Obviously I hope he turns out good, but doesn't seem like a dead cert yet.
