Much has been said lately about how well our lads are doing in relation to how much they actually cost the club. For instance, comparisons have been made with Graham at £3.5 million against Carroll at £35 million. Is Carroll really worth 10 times the value of Graham? Of course not and neither, imo, is Jordan Henderson worth £20 million etc etc.

However, as always, this sort of thing is a matter of opinion and I started wondering what the transfer value might be of our squad based on PL performances to date, media and pundit's views, player's ages and so on - and, of course, British players do seem to attract a premium nowadays.

I have come up with my own assessment based on the scenario that our club WOULD sell but don't HAVE to. Now I haven't given this a great deal of thought so my figures are based on an off the cuff gut feeling. If I sat and thought about it further I might well amend some of the values I have set, but it's only a bit of fun for us all and I didn't want to give myself a headache. :headbang: I have selected a starting eleven plus seven subs and I am aware that people such as Jazz and so on have been omitted. Anyway, here goes in round millions:-

Vorm 6
Rangel 4
Monk 1
Ash 7
Taylor 4
Joe 7
Gower 1
Leon 2
Dyer 6
Sincs 7
Graham 5

That makes a starting eleven value of £50 million. Optimistic? Maybe but that's me.

My subs are:- Routledge 3; Lita 3; Kemy 2; Moore 2; Dobbie 2; Orlandi 1; Tremmell 1.

That's another £14 million. Of course there are any number of future indefinables. Any of the subs could get a run of games and enhance their values for instance.

That's my take, not hard and fast and I would be really interested to see what the rest of you guys think.

I think Vorm is likely to be closer to 8 Million, but can't see young Joe going for less than 10 Million, or for that matter Dyer, and Sinclair! They have all shown that they are comfortable in the Premiership.................

I think in this day and age, everybody knows that if the money is right, the player will go, sadly. There's the human element, and if it means being able to provide for your family for the rest of your life then there should never be any vitriol towards a player for taking a paycheck (Ash Williams and Neil Taylor were playing non-league not so long ago so won't have the financial reserves youngsters coming through at PL teams have).

What I'm getting at is that, if a club like Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs etc want one of our players, they'll bid for him regardless of how long is left on his contract. I'd like to see everyone tied up on 3 or 4 year deals so that if we DO have players poached, then we maximise the profits when it happens. A friend said recently "If you were Sinclair, why would you sign a new deal?" My answer was that if he signed an improved deal with us, the next contract he gets will be higher again so it's better for him! On top of that, the Swans would get an extra 2mil or so because he had longer to run on his current deal.

I couldn't begin to speculate on values because transfer fees seem to be set by how highly managers rate a players reputation, multiplied by the size of the clubs stadium, plus how "big" the club is deemed to be, so god knows. One thing I will say though, is that Roger Johnson cost 7mil, and Ash is twice the player he is...

my values
vorm 5-8m (at least, current dutch international keeper for 1.5 m an absolute steal)
rangel 3-4m (not the best defender but makes up for it going forward)
taylor 5-8m (young up and coming british full back, good all round game, value can only increase)
monk no value monetary wise, but good for the future i think
williams 7-10 m (ultra reliable, strong mobile british centre half, be maybe double at some english clubs)
britton 3-4m (quality in the midfield, he is our scot parker)
gower no value (reasonable enough player, but coming to end of career)
allen 10-15m (he's one of our super stars, adding goals to his game recently)
dyer 10-15m (he's another of our super stars, carried on this year where he left off last year)
sinclair 8-12m (he gets all the limelight but i think dyer is more vital to us, although he carries a bigger goal threat than dyer)
graham 8-12m (if he carries on scoring like he has done, he'll be worth big money)

Looking at some of the overhyped player in the PL this is my valuation based on Ivor's starting 11.

Vorm 8 (How much was Man U's keeper?) Vorm worth more than him by a long way.
Rangel 6
Monk 1
Ash 8
Taylor 6
Joe 12 (At least)
Gower 1
Leon 6
Dyer 10-12
Sincs 10
Graham 8+

So far based on your replies, guys, looks like you're telling me that I have under-valued the squad and I thought that I was being somewhat optimistic with my figures. Anyway, needless to say, I hope that you're right but I equally hope that we don't sell any of our top players. It will mean that we are doing well.

Vorm 8-9m (now if he keeps his form up easily past 10)
Rangel 3m
Monk 500K
Williams 7m (on par with what Roger Johnson went for and our Williams is better)
Taylor 5m (looking more and more an accomplished fullback every game. Dealt with Carroll quite easily this weekend, plus he got youth on his side)
Dyer 6m (would be more if he found the net a few more times and worked a bit on his final product)
Gower 500k
Britton 5m (Swansea's own little Iniesta)
Allen 13-14m (gone a bit over on what i think he is worth but if Oxlade Chamberlain can go for 12 and Henderson for 20m then 12-14 mil is a steal)
Sinc 6m (same as Dyer, personally feel he hasnt picked up his game as much as dyer has so im putting them on even par)
Graham 5m (4 in 4 put some doubter to rest, his value will shoot up if he can keep scoring :) )

i make that 60 million

The moral seems obvious here, lads. Achieve a level of success in the PL and you don't only gain from the other oft stated sources (Sky, Gates, Commercial etc) but the asset value of your players vastly increases.

What did our lot cost us initially? Off the top of my head between 10/15 million? Worst case scenario of present value is about £50 million with an average estimate from our posters of about £60 million. Of course we don't want to cash in, no point, and certainly not on our best players but it is comforting to know that that sort of asset value exists.

Naturally, should we be relegated then we would not realise these sort of figures but the mind boggles as to what the players could be worth should we climb the table and consolidate there. I just hope that we possess the knowledge and expertise to handle this situation vis a vis contracts, wages and so on. It's certainly a far cry from where we were just a few years ago and I hope that we don't do a Scrooge when sorting out Buck's contract. The stakes are huge and we can afford it. Great times!!

Vorm - £8m
Rangel - £6m
Monk - £1m
Williams - £7m
Taylor -£4m
Allen - £10m
Gower - £1m
Leon - £21m
Dyer - £12m
Graham - £8m
Sinclair - £10m

P.S. Musty, how can you say Graham is overpriced? Demba Ba is probably on quadruple the wages Danny is on, and so he would have been overpriced. We have a striker who has scored more goals then Carrol, Suarez, Welbeck, Adebayor, Crouch, Drogba, Torres and Sturridge to name a few. For £3.5m? Bargain of the season so far (barring Vorm).

That's the issue, Huw Jenkins needs to do his homework well on this, as I think we have a cracking manager in Brendan Rodgers, and you don’t spoil the ship for a hapeth of tar, do you! Come on Huw, get it sorted, and please be on top of the job this season.............
