Ah well, we don't need to worry about who's coming in as NJ says he'd rather work with the **** players he knows rather than risk getting someone in who could be better... Just as well close the thread now and save us all a load of pointless speculation
I don't get this impatience to start players. Its been literally one game, they've had a week to settle and get to know their club and teammates. Alcaraz doesnt even speak english to my knowledge. Feel like people forget that these are humans not some 'asset' that you just deploy to solve a problem.
For me, signing new players who need time to bed in is not a luxury we have. Players we are signing should be good enough to come into the team and make an impact, we haven't got time for them to get up to speed. Other teams seem to do it OK so not sure why we can't.
I largely agree on Alcaraz. I've said before I don't expect too much from a 20 year old coming to England from South America mid-season. He also didn't look great when he came on last week so I get him being left out, or given more time or however you want to put it. I'm not sure that's the type of player we needed to sign but that's a different discussion. Orsic is 30 though, so was presumably signed to have a short-term impact. He scores goals (something we lack), was signed on 6th January, has been eligible for 3 matches and has spent less than 15 minutes on the pitch. It's just a bit odd.
They won’t be the first players in the same situation. Jones speaks Spanish so communication with Alcaraz, and explaining to him what he wants him to do, won’t be an issue. Orsić has been around for a few years, so should be able to cope with following instructions. You’re right, they are both human but I bet if you asked them if they wanted to start on Tuesday, they would both say yes. Human nature. But bigger picture, what is more important to the club? Winning the game on Tuesday or getting these guys some game time so that they are ready to help us win some points? We have 3 cup games so it’s 3 free hits for pushing them into the mix. Likewise if we do get other players in. We don’t have time for them to acclimatise to the squad. If they are considered better than what we have, then they need to be used, so all the more reason to get these other guys into the team so they have started to adapt to watching the ball kicked aimlessly forward.
That is pure fantasy land stuff. ALL players need to 'bed in' and if you don't 'get them up to speed' then you are setting them up to fail. You will just judge them as **** and not what we need and nowhere near good enough for this league. Its no revelation that we need to change results but you are buying new players, not wins.
You literally didn't read what I said. Only we seem to hold players back from keeping them out the starting lineup or meanignful minutes. Nottingham Forest started Wood, Bournemouth started their new player (his name escapes me) within days of signing. Chelsea with their new Ukrainian winger as well. Orsic has been here 3 weeks and has only managed 15 minutes of football. And he's meant to be experienced! We don't have the luxury of these players taking time to get know our system (if we have one), we're bottom of the table and we need an instant impact to try and get us out of this mess. If a new signing comes in and doesn't hit the ground running, fair enough, but at least I can see the club trying to change things up from the tried and tested failures that our first choice XI is reeking of.
It’s only us only if you cherry pick. Chelsea didn’t start their new winger despite him clearly being miles better than who they had on the pitch and him costing €100m! Leeds spent circa 36m on a striker with a pretty poor goal records and left him on the bench the whole game where they were struggling to score. Our fans would go mental if we signed someone for that much with that goal record and you are proving they would be very upset if they did what Leeds did and left him on the bench Liverpool threw Gakpo straight in and he has done pretty much nothing.
Fair enough, I thought I did read what you put. If you think its better to put them in regardless because the first 11 is so poor then ok. Orsic has come in already in a limited way but one of the problems I see at the moment is that Alcaraz is more needed than Orsic because Diallo is offering nothing, and Adams needs to go more than Adarma. The recruitment isn't finished so maybe there's a bigger picture in play as well.
