Who can afford to own a English football club these days, especially ones aiming for trophies.

It used to be millionaires, then it was multimillionaires, then Chelsea started the Billionaire owners, now just being a billionaire isn't enough anymore. You almost need the wealth of a country to compete.

It does rather limit who can own and run a club, unless you go down the Bayern path, which nobody will vote for until there is no option left.

' "Either the manager's position changes or a lot of other things change," said Klopp.

"So, as far as I am concerned unless someone tells me I will not go."

He added: "So that means maybe there is a point where we have to change other stuff. We will see that, but that is something for the future. Like summer or whatever. Not now.

"I have space and time to think about it. We have to play better football now."

Klopp reiterated it is unlikely any more signings will follow Netherlands forward Cody Gakpo in January, while midfield trio James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be out of contract in the summer along with forward Roberto Firmino'

Interesting about the change in the summer. Has a feel of new ownership coming.

For what it’s worth, I don’t really care where the money comes from.

The amount we spend isn’t important - it’s how we spend. And largely, we spend very well. The issue is the lack of players we bring in.

I want owners who are ambitious and are willing to address the issues in the squad there and then - not waiting years and years for targets.

I care where the money comes from. I don't believe in success at any cost. Klopp has shown how you win without cheating the system or having despots bankrolling you. I really hope there's a crackdown on dodgy owners before the game is completely ruined. We've never been a club that goes for the biggest names or spent outrageously to achieve success. I would like it to stay that way. I don't want our club selling it's soul to the highest bidder. Look at man city to see what happens when you sell out. A completely soulless club with unenthusiastic fans who largely can't even be bothered turning up to games or victory parades anymore.

Klopp shows it can be done. But I think he's the exception rather than the rule, and it will happen less and less as time goes by. Not that that is me saying where the money comes from doesn't matter...

... I'm just conceding, being ethical won't win many titles.

Putting aside the ethical discussion, I would love to see Klopp with a serious budget. He’s competed on a fraction of what the others have had until now…

Klopp's been very vocal in the past about not wanting to be at a club with a massive budget that looks to buy success. That's why he wouldn't join Bayern or Man Utd etc
