Can’t help feeling if we can survive the next four months we’re going the right way. A board at last showing some balls, players all busting a gut for the club. Can’t ask for much more from what we have
Mate, I'm just flabbergasted by some of the comments flying around. They don't spend, they're gambling with our future, they do spend, they're gambling with our future. Who'd want to own a football club.
Watched Brentford earlier and they are absolutely nothing special. What they have though is a well drilled method of winning games. It's clear that they 100% believe in what they are doing and don't panic at all when the opposition have the ball, in fact they positively encourage it as they wait for the opportunities that will come on the counter attack. Even if they are not counter attacking they still don't panic or worry because they know a chance will come eventually and all they need to do is keep the game tight and be patient. That apparently gets you 8th in the League and they'll come to ER next Sunday with the exact same mindset. They'll allow us to have the ball, throw players forward and do all the running, but they'll be scoring the goals and taking the points. Should be a classic encounter.
I did read a report somewhere, where the suggestion was that surely the 49ers must be behind the January signings. I guess this rules out selling to the Middle Eastern consortium
Some American coach said we’ll never get the best out of playing Aaronson through the middle, out on the right wing is where he is best suited
Could be panic stations to try and guarantee we don’t go down. Think Radz and 49ers have had to did deep to do this, Wober and anyone else they bring in. Staying up is the only gig in town as relegation means value of the club almost halves. As far as selling the club go’s it may well be the 49ers may want to sell to someone else but at top whack, not half price. Also if they want to buy Radz out in the summer they need us to be in the prem or they won’t do it?
Saw an interesting comment about Chelsea’s hijacking of Mudryk as the contract he is getting takes him to 2030 to beat the FFFP rules by amortisation. Never thought about that before, but could that also be a reason why existing players like Llorente get a new long term deal, can the accountants now use that initial £13m and amortise it from when we got him up to 2026 to help our FFFP? Yes I understand why new players are getting longer contracts and that amortisation is an internal accounting tool and nothing to do with actual payment terms. Anyone got a scooby?
We are short of a midfielder so at this time had no choice. Lot of talk about the Morrocan lad but my stepson said yesterday he is more of a defensive midfielder. Every poster on here knows we need a quality playmaker.
Rutter's stats at first glance don't look great but when you look at them closer, it doesn't make bad reading at all and these were in a struggling side. I know we are too. 11 starts 2 goals and 2 assists this season. 13 starts 8 goals and 4 assists last season 24 starts 10 goals and 6 assists is a goal or assist every 1.5 games
Agree with you mate, but ultimately this is a gamble that I hope pays off Cant wait to see how Bamford reacts to being 3rd choice striker
Truth is and myself included, if we’d signed him for £8m we’d hope he was the next Gnonto and we might have grabbed a bargain. If he struggles or fails we’d not be too bothered. Because we break our transfer record on him we just assume there must be something special. I mean it’s the same player whether he cost £4m £8m or £30m+ it is our perception and excitement that changes
Thinking of my above post: Gyabi for £5m hardly considered and we don’t feel it’s £5m wasted Gnonto for £5m and you just think How? The transfer market makes zero sense
There is no way we are spending over £30m on a player and he won’t be starting. Those who’ve watched him a few times feel he is best played out wide. I feel Rutter is going to be competition for Sinisterra, Aaronson and Summerville and an emergency striker I’d expect Harrison to be sold and Joffy out on loan
It is a lot of money for sure, but for them to spend this amount, they must be very confident they've got a talent. Sometimes you have to take a gamble. I still think most of the fee will be add ons.
