    25 Australia Caps. Zero Goals????!??!?!!?!?

I just saw this. Now, I know he is not Messi but I always thought he was a pretty decent 'second tier' striker.
Considering the opposition Australia regularily play in qualifying games and friendlies I find that absolutely astounding. Even taking into consideration sub appearances.

    Can ANYONE explain this please?!

Yes but even still, don't Australia face teams such as Tonga, Samoa & New Zealand.
    I just find it strange.
Average Striker? Yes, no doubt...but still a full time professional which is more than you can say about most of the squads in that qualifying area

Stereo, Maybe we should bring him back and pair him up with your all time favourite big Sammy.

Did you think I was having a go at Scott McDonald? Did I say anything disparaging about him? Or do you think my aside to Pud was in fact a dig at the Aussie?

You see, the reason I made the comment was that Pud pointed out he hadn't scored for Middlesbrough in 11 games and by a lucky coincidence Skippy had just scored against Watford. Hence my somewhat glib remark about impeccable timing.

What this has to do with Samaras is anyone's guess but then logic rarely makes an appearance in your posts.

Scott McDonald was a decent finisher but an awful player, I remember he tried to take a ball under control in the opposition half, it kept bouncing off his feet and he ended up in his own box and Caldwell took it from him and looked at him with disgust, I can laugh now but was embarrassed for him at the time.

Australia have been in the ASEAN zone since 2005 (to avoid playing a S.American team in a play-off). And play many friends against top European nations rather than friendlies against geographic neighbours. He's still a bit rubbish though

Has he started many games for Oz? Genuine question, always got the impression he was predominantly a sub for the national team.

Anyway, he's a bit rubbish technically but he has / had a weird knack of scoring in big games. He scored for us against Spartak (what a game that was!), Man Utd, AC Milan and in the derby (a few times).

It's the other way around for us at the moment. Despite not scoring he brings a lot to the team. He works hard and makes things happen when he's on his game. He was on fire at Barnsley early on in the season after he scored for us. He set up the other two and looked very threatening on the ball. He drifts into deeper areas for us and has an eye for a defence splitting pass. I just hope he starts to score more for us.. he showed at the end of last season what he's all about.

Does he still use his massive arse to block defenders?

The Aussies only call up domestic based players for the matches against the cannon fodder in their area. Hence the Aussie/Scot with the dodgy English accent tends to have played against higher ranked nations. Even then, he's been gash.

IIRC a lad scored something like 14 goals against American Samoa for the Aussies, only to be dropped for the next match, as he was one of the home based lads.

Stereo, the self proclaimed person with above average I.Q. has finally brought himself round to mention Samaras, for the first time since last Thursday. As a Celtic fan, through and through I have no interest in what is going on with clubs in the nether regions of the WEPL or lower foreign leagues and so I am sorry I didn't understand your "glib" remark. You with your above average intelligence need to control you self with your ........ remarks, as I am sure not everyone reading your post would claim your high standards and so you could be misinterpreted.
By the way Stereo, how do the high intelligentsia interpret Samaras's performance on Thursday night.

I only mentioned Samaras because you asked me about him <doh>

He played well on Thursday and did okay yesterday although he gave the ball straight to Motherwell players on a couple of occasions. If you honestly think I'm going to change my opinion on him based on a couple of games then you're sadly mistaken. He hasn't scored a league since May for ****'s sake!

    Thanks Stereo Typist.
Good to see you are man enough to give at least a little bit of praise for Samaras.
We know he hasn't scored since the new year but at least he set up three of our 5 goals within the last week.
Sometimes we have to acknowledge others statistics rather than goal scoring especially whilst referring to left
sided midfielders. I thought his work-rate on Thursday was amazing. He did give the ball straight to M'well players
but so did most other Celtic players.
I appreciate your comment, as I am sure you found it difficult.
All I have been trying to say all along is to not go over the top criticising any Celtic player at the end of the day they all
want the same as us success for the team. I prefer leaving the ridiculing of Celtic players to the bears, I have never seen any reason to help them.
Now if we had a bear free forum, I think we could better express our opinions.

I don't find it difficult at all. It's an anonymous internet site.

And it will never be a bear free zone. Granted a couple of them have been banned from the site (not by me!) but the rest are more than welcome.
