Sunderland welcome Swansea City to the Stadium of Light in the Championship. Last time out Sunderland beat Shrewsbury and Swansea drew with Bristol City. Sunderland came back from a goal down to win 2-1 at Shrewsbury, Ross Stewart scoring his 5th goal in 5 games since returning from injury and Luke O’Nien scoring the last minute winner Tony Mowbray could have Corry Evans, Danny Batth, Leon Dajaku and Lyndon Gooch back from injury. However Embleton, Cirkin, Pritchard, Huggins and Alese are not available. Swansea drew 1-1 away to Bristol City in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup, Antoine Semenyo's second-half header earning a replay after the Swans had taken an early lead through Joel Piroe. The Swans were dominant in the first half but Semenyo's goal was deserved as the Robins were equally dominant after half-time. Tony Mowbray: "Danny Batth trained today, and Niall Huggins had his first day back on the grass today which was good. Niall has been out for a while so he won't be in contention for this week but it's good that he's on his way back. "Corry Evans has been training and is available. Aji Alese is probably about ten days away, he's back on the grass doing a little bit of running. "Dennis Cirkin is probably about a week behind Aji. Leon is back on the training ground, the injury wasn't as bad as he thought so he's back in the squad and we'll see what the weekend brings." "We have a recruitment meeting this afternoon, all the recruitment staff are in, and we'll be going through where we are on certain enquiries," said Mowbray. "This one was thrown in [the diary] yesterday because something is developing and we need to discuss it and see what we all think. There are some other options come up in different positions which we all get sent to us and we study them on our laptops, and then we'll have an opinion on which road we think we can go down. Russel Martin: "There’s very little between us and them in terms of points,” said Martin when asked about Sunderland. “I really like them as a team, they're young, vibrant and energetic and have a manager with so much experience at this level." "They pose a lot of threat, it’s a brilliant place to play. I really enjoyed playing there myself as a player. It’s one we’re really looking forward to and one I think we’re really well prepared for." “Liam Walsh has returned to full training and we’ll hope to get him some minutes with the under-21s in the next couple of weeks. It’ll be nice to have him back fully engaged with the squad. We know what a brilliant technician he is so it will be good to have him back. Swansea gave us a good game down their place and I’m expecting another tough game this weekend, even though their away form is not great. I’m going for a 2-0 home win 19th Minute Applause for Elliot Ayre RIP Live Stream: https://www.safc.com/news/team-news/live-video (Overseas fans only) Ha’way the Lads
Really decent outfit Swansea. One of the only times I have seen us very well schooled when we played them away. Think it was first half anyway, they should have been 3 or 4 to the good and looked top draw. Tough game, would love a win but wouldn't be gutted with a draw.
Hoping for consecutive wins at the SOL for the 1st time since 2007. I read that somewhere this week - unbelievable if true!! 3-1 HAWAY. (Tho my predictions are usually PISH) Bart
Off we go again league wise and this could be a real test, however they're a bit up and down away from Wales so hopefully we catch them on a down day. As RTB says we've got some defenders back so will be happy with a clean sheet and a couple from our forwards HTL.
RTB Would probably go with your suggested team. If we are actually going to mount a play-off challenge, we have to keep improving our home form. This would be a good time for a win. Ps well done Patterson for the award win... he continues to improve.
I think that stat is from the Chronic and is related to the Championship. Sunderland have yet to win back-to-back games this season, nor did they win two games in a row in their last campaign at this level in 2017-18, meaning the last time they won successive Championship games came in April and May 2007 when Roy Keane's side beat Burnley on Wearside and then won at Luton Town as they were promoted as champions.
Swansea play some tidy stuff but we can definitely win this one. Tickets have sold well, could push 39/40K
The block they opened in the PC looks to have sold pretty well even though there are a few left in the lower bowl. Wonder if they are opening the PC a bit earlier. It certainly looks like people want to be up there if they can.
Certainly not the case for Boro tickets mate. PC tickets should’ve been available a couple of days ago for that fixture. Looking at 42,000+ next weekend
