Our defeat is a foregone conclusion according to a headline in the mirror today: When is the Carabao Cup semi-final draw? Man Utd and Man City hoping to learn opponents
Yeah City’s reserves are probably still a top 6 PL team, tonight is going to be a very tough ask. A slight positive is City don’t tend to put 5/6 past teams, they get 2/3 up and then coast so if/when we do lose hopefully won’t be a complete battering to lower confidence even more.
City’s reserves thumped a reasonably strong Chelsea side 4-0 the other night. I think we’ll see pretty much the same team start, with the exception of Calvin Phillips who Pep has already more or less said will start.
Not really bothered by the game tonight. I am expecting us to lose but will be watching to see how we perform. Performance is key, for me. I’ve already had a good day, so even a bad performance will probably only raise a shrug of the shoulders from me, plus a bit of moaning on here.
Personally I feel much the same. I believe and very much hope, we could spring a surprise. But this match is more important than we probably think for the following reasons: 1.NJ has to show some nous re team selection, tactics during the game and substitute timings. 2. The players selected need to demonstrate they want to win and show a commitment on the field which has been missing for most of the season. 3. Concentration levels need to be sharp and for the whole game. Team spirit in full view all the time. 4. Whatever the result, the manager, players and fans need to leave the stadium with a feeling of a job well done and momentum to carry us forward to the next PL game. We all know what the expected outcome is supposed to be, but there are other expectations too as I've listed.
I'd Like to see this line up tonight, And it's probably nearly certain we wont win.. Id like to see Jones actually implement "his prefered style" tonight. Bazunu; KWP, DCC, Salisu, Perraud; Lavia; Elyounussi, Ward-Prowse, Aribo, Edozie; Armstrong. I don't see us having much of the ball, We would need quick attackers to try and get behind with the longer/direct style.
I think the last time I was at St Marys in weather this bad was back in 2019, think it was Leicester we played. What was the scoreline...?
Didn’t realise how bad the weather was there. Currently 20C where I am. Was so warm earlier that I had to choose between using the car aircon or open a window. I chose the latter.
With this torrential rain pouring down I popped next door to see if 84 year-old Vera needed anything from the shops. She said she did, so I gave her my list. No point in both of us going out in this weather. Saints 3 Man City 2
