Don’t understand why our fans have a tendency to say our keeper isn’t good enough. Patterson has had a great season and saved our blushes many times already. It was the same with Burge, named in the League One team of the season but not good enough in that league for us. Not seen enough from Bass to make a call on whether he is good enough but I have trust in our squad. Anyway, keeper rant over!

For me striker has to be priority, followed by possibly a tough big midfielder.

looked assured for certain, for a lad with so few games...noticed when they scored they had a lad hanging onto roberts and just leaned back as if going for a header, was enough to cause distraction to the keeper, other than that he did ok although not the best game to judge a keeper on.

Bass is plenty decent enough to be back up for now. Of course we could improve but for me it falls behind striker and centre midfielder in the order.

I’d be extremely happy if the only incomings were two strikers and a centre midfielder. And Dajaku and maybe Huggins out on loan the only outgoings

I was prepared not to like Bass as I raved about Carney last year and thought he could adequately cover for Patterson , thinking a more senior keeper was required to coach and cover for the two academy boys if required, but Bass has won me over, he is very good at coming for crosses and generally looks unfazed and confident. Patterson though has been a revelation since taking the jersey and deserves to be No 1 , despite the odd mishap which comes with the role.

In some ways it is good that no leaks are emerging about likely incomings. Unless we have not progressed very far?

Also is no news, good news about Stewart?

Patterson is decent. He’s made mistakes this season, notably a few where he’s just watched crossed go straight through everyone in the box and end up in the goal, but he’s only young and already playing regular championship football. I’d rather stick with him, he’s only getting better and more confident of playing out from the back. There’s an “international” keeper playing premier league football up the road who hadn’t played higher than L2 until he was about 25/26 iirc and he’s done alright for himself.

As for signings the need for 2 strikers is obvious. I think we’re stacked in midfield I really don’t see the need for another CM other than cover for Evans but realistically which experienced CM is going to come in and sit on the bench every week and if someone is willing to do that, are they going to be better than playing Neil, Michut or Ba there? I’d rather give someone with decent potential and a point to prove a run out than a journeyman who’s happy to take a wage warming the bench. Plus O’nein can also play in the middle as a last resort.

    I’d like an experienced full back in who can play both sides ideally because Huggins getting match fit anytime soon seems unlikely. Hume and Cirkin look to be our full backs going forward but if they’re both out and we play Gooch and Alese we’re knackered - as you saw against West Brom. Gooch and O’nein in the same defence, especially on the same side is an absolute dream for any half decent opposition winger. As it stands if everyone was fit;

    Patterson
    Hume Ballard Bathh Cirkin
    Evans Neil/Ba
    Diallo Pritch/Michut Clarke/Roberts
    Stewart

I rate Patterson very highly however I personally would be extremely worried if he gets injured, Bass looked OK yesterday but doesn't really fill you with confidence

Who do people think that would fill us with confidence is willing to be a backup in the championship?

the only sides who get the luxury of a back up who fills them with confidence are premier league sides. Bass is fine.

High chance I’m putting 2 + 2 together and getting 5 but Buckley isn’t in the Blackburn squad today and we were linked with him earlier in the window could he be the centre mid we’re after? Wasn’t hugely impressed with him on Boxing Day but knows Mowbray well

That's the biggest problem is who, exactly the same as back up for Stewart, who do you get that's good enough to step in when needed but prepared to spend most of the season on the bench, Bass is probably fine as back up and come in for a couple of games as cover, I would however worry if Patterson ended up with an injury for 4 or 5 months

From what I've seen of him he seems to spend more time trying to get sent off than anything else, he's a niggley little ****er

If Patterson picked up an injury for a length of time like that we could just get an emergency loan in I think couldn’t we?

I wasn't that convinced with Bass yesterday, especially when he tried to trap the ball and it went under his foot for a corner!

I'm not sure the rules of that if you have another 2 keepers on your books, what annoys me about that rule was I think Lincoln in the play off semis brought the young lad from Stoke in on loan when their keeper got injured because their own reserve keeper was on loan somewhere is, its probably a better idea to have a first choice keeper and youth keeper on your books to sit on the bench then if your first choice gets injured you can just bring an emergency loan from a premier league team short term

Carney is a very good keeper for the u21s. Captain as well, seen him pull of some superb saves in the games I've seen down there.

Can't see us bringing another keeper in.

2 strikers and a midfielder then see who else goes out. Probably need a CH if Wright wants more gametime elsewhere.
