Not sure I agree. Those 2 are going down and Oxford are a good side. Getting relegated is not going to help him.
On the upside for Brandon F, Oxford is a really nice place... at least he hasn't been shipped out to some **** hole...
I think he saw enough in Greaves to realise he is comfortable with the ball at his feet, can switch play really well, is decent with his delivery and can defend well. All top attributes for a full back - his height is a bonus. Both Fleming and Elder can’t really be knocking the mangers door down demanding to play when they are witnessing first hand what a job Greavesy is doing at left back.
This height thing at left back is bollocks. How tall was Andy Dawson? He was a pretty decent left back that played in the PL.
It could look like that. Or, like he’s said a number of times we don’t have much height in the side outside of the centre backs and Oscar so defending set pieces has been an issue. I’m sure we’ll address this issue in summer (rather than short term signings in Jan) but until that is an option Brandon can go play consistent games at Oxford. Someone made the “gotcha” post saying Brandon is taller than most non defender players that get games for us which sums up what we are defending against from set pieces.
Why do you say they're going down? Bolton's 5th and Oxford are 14th. league 1 table - Search (bing.com)
It’s not Brandon’s height that’s the issue. It’s the height of the team. I thought that was pretty clear from what Ros said but it’s seemingly gone over peoples heads as a dig at him for being a short arse. Slater, Doc, Seri, Woods, Longman are hardly who you want marking up at corners ffs.
I don’t think it’s specifically to do with a left back needing to be tall. More to do with defending corners and set plays when you have Slater, Seri, Woods in your midfield who don’t offer a great deal of height.
Not at the moment because Greaves is a better option at left back. He would be an option/back up to Greaves should he be injured or needed at Centre back once Elder leaves.
He was replying to the idea that he should have gone to Wigan or Rotherham - not that we know they'd even be interested.
We had plenty of height in other areas, not just 2 CBs and a striker over 6ft, and I think I'm right in remembering Daws was usually on a post at incoming set pieces.
Absolutely bang on, why would you do it, makes no sense. Playing every match will benefit him no end.
It's not that he wants his full backs to be tall. It's that we're a small side, and kept conceding from set pieces. So he wanted more height in the team as a whole. Greaves staying at left back was just the easiest solution
