What style does he like to play though? I havent got a clue. I half expect we will sign Luton's reserves so we play his way
I've not watched a great deal of action over the last few seasons, some full matches and highlights on MOTD or YouTube if we have played well(obviously not much over the last year). We started getting bad during Ralph's tenure and he couldn't get us out of that slump. Jones has now come in and also can't change things. Ralph persisted with certain things even though fans could see it wasn't working. Stu Armstrong continues to not get picked. Ely keeps getting picked. Surely there is a reason that both Ralph and now Jones is basically doing these same things? Dyche or Poch or any other name(realistic or fantastical) may well have done the same sort of things. I don't blame Jones for what is happening right now, there is something odd going on at the club, I have no idea what it is though. What I do know is that this is not Jones team, he has come in and seen the issues and probably thinks ****, what have I inherited. Where has the team spirit gone, is it just because the players are too young and inexperienced or is it something else? We don't have a lot of experience but what little we do have are not playing. McCarthy benched. Walcott can't even get on bench half the time, Bedders and Stephens loaned out. Romeu sold. S.Armstrong benched. We have to sign some experience as this youth experiment is not working. Get Ings, bring Bedders or Stephens back, sign players edging towards 30 without worrying about resale value. Some of our players could well be great players at some time but I'm sure all great youngsters over history played in a mixed team with experienced players that could help them get through the squeeky bum times. I still believe we can do it, I don't believe sacking Jones would be helpful at this stage, having 3 managers in 1 season surely never works. Let's stick rather than twist, back the **** out of Jones with the transfers he needs and if we go down, make the change then. Sorry if I am in the minority.
Reading through the forums, I have not read one person supporting Jones. Must be some kind of record that all fans want Jones gone now, after 4 games. Can we have a poll mods?
He played a few different ways at Luton during 4 seasons including both a long ball direct style with Cameron Jones as a target man and then a high energy press with fast wide players - so who knows what he actually wants to do with us!
Hey Ash, I had a quadruple CABG 2 years ago and feeling fine mate. I am overweight and don't do much exercise to be honest mainly due to my arthritis in the knee. I had a scare just before Christmas and went to A&E but thankfully it was nothing and I was given the all clear. 2 years on and my troponin level are normal which is good news and I was able to drive up to Scotland for the New year. Wishing you a speedy recovery mate and If you feel a bit down after the operation or need to chat about recovery, just send me a PM any time.
Bright for 15mins, Che doing a Che, then ****ing awful for the rest. Forest were bad, and somehow we were worse. I feel for Jones in that he’s inherited a ****ing awful team with absolutely 0 confidence. There’s zero experience through the core apart from Prowse. I’m sorry, but no coach could do well with this. We got rid of a lot of experience in the summer and brought in kids. What do we expect? Jones’ Luton would beat this shower of ****.
It is disappointing that the new manager has not really been given a chance at Southampton. We are traditionally a club that is appreciative of how the fans expect the football to be played and I think that the supporters typically give managers an amount of time to get things right, even when in relegation battles. In the case of Nathan Jones, the most salient point I have read in this thread is that it is the supposedly "uninformed" supporters who have more idea of how football should and should not be played and who have a better indication of what is wrong than the professionals who appointed Jones in the first place. I would like to think Saints fans are patient but, as this messageboard ably demonstrates, they are also very informed. I feel that the appointment of Nathan Jones lacked rationality and if data had been used to determine that he was a "perfect fit", it is clear that the person who made this dreasdful decision needs to fall on their sword too. Most supporters knew little about him beforehand and the appointment even baffled the local press. It had the impression of either being absolutely inspired or a massive risk. I feel that after tonight Sports Republic are in an extremely difficult position.Everyone can see the appointment was a massive error and that Jones neither has the ability nor the ethos that is required to be a Saints manager. If SR stick with him, they will lose the fans. I cannot see us picking up any points under Jones and keeping him at the helm will exacerbate the problem. He is inept both as a coach and a leader. I think that he will be gone by the weekend if we lose at Crystal Palace. No selt-respecting Saints fan is ever going to get behind Jones and it would appear that he has already lost the dressing room is reports are correct. It is clear that he has no idea of tactics and that he playing staff are baffled. He will not turn this around in a million years and I just feel it will be a really short appointment indeed. I am not sure he is going to get through January. This has turned toxic even quicker than with Branfoot. I don't even think that Jones will get as far as having the trip to Marwell Zoo. Nathan Jones must go immediately.
Thankyou for your message. really appreciate your words and really wish the best for you. I will take you up on your generous offer thanklyou
I admire your optimism, but what about his record or his first five games makes you think he is the right man for the job? Get well soon ashbysaint!
Really nice to read this and a good reminder of what's really important. Wishing good health to you both.
I haven’t watched much this past few weeks but Jones’ demeanour on the touch line wouldn’t inspire anyone to walk through muddy puddles.Astonishingly pooy
I thought Ralph was the right man for the job. When he went I liked what I read about Jones, thought this could work. I'm not sure who is the right man for the job, never said Jones is but I did/do back him as I do all managers, what I'm saying is it will surely not go well getting rid now, he hasn't even been able to get anyone in yet, surely SR knew this was a real possibility that it may take a few signings to get some results? Has a Premier League team ever stayed up on 3 managers before? Who would we even realistically get. The players would have to learn another new system and players we are negotiating with would be stopped at so others could be pursued, it would be a shambles! Poch came to us as a good squad of players that had only just got to the Premier League, Adkins mind you was starting to get improvements himself, imagine he came into the mess we have right now. Dyche had time to build a squad at Burnley, he didn't just come in to save them from relegation. My gut feeling says keep him, get additions in and things will improve, it's getting harder and harder with each passing game though.
But Nathan mate, you had 5 weeks with the players without the distraction of any games. You had a training camp in Spain. These excuses are nothing short of dismal and pathetic.
