Do the players know why ? I'm fairly sure the players have heard the 'chant' in recent games....I'd be surprised if they haven't felt a little 'hurt' - maybe even offended by the accusation - BUT - do they understand the reason for fans venting their spleen?... It's nothing to do with being useless footballers! It's because you are gutless...You fail to give 100% ...You look as if you simply can't be bothered ! I've recently disclosed that I have been going to Priestfield for 60 years. For 48 of those years, my journey to a 'home' game has been 100 ( or more ) miles...And I have travelled thousands of miles to many, many away games - but I have reached a breaking point ! I have stated that, over the last 60 years, I have seen many 'useless' players wearing a Gills shirt.. I have, sadly, seen many defeats... it's painful - but - I have always appreciated 100% effort.... One of the best games I have seen was a 0-2 defeat against a 'high-flying' Grimsby team ( many years ago .) I left Priestfield disappointed with losing the game - but- heartened by the character and commitment shown by the team - who 'fought-for-their-lives.'................. BUT- not this bunch - who (barring an odd exception ), look as if they're not interested........ Do they think about the effort and sacrifices made by the fans who pay to watch the utterly rubbish football from players who don't care ?.... In recent games, I have seen players turning away from a challenge - on several occasions - and the result has been another goal conceded..... and that's when they're not just simply strolling on the pitch - not bothering to bust a lung to prevent the opposition from breezing through our defence..... I say 'defence' - but that does include the worst 'culprits' (( Williams and soon- to- be back to back to back relegated Ehmer ))... The disgraceful effort shown against Colchester was inexcusable....... ...... Do the players think fans simply pluck ticket money out of thin air ? - I don't. My 'pension' money has been hard-earned... and earned in a career where I placed myself in the 'line of fire' in pursuit of National security and defence of public lives...I have cheated death on several occasions, and have received medals from Her Majesty ( Queen Elizabeth ) for my 'bravery.'...... but, at the time, I had no thought for myself, or the prospect of 'reward' -- I was simply doing my job with 100% commitment. The fans don't want to sing '' you're not fit to wear the shirt. '' The fans understand the limitations of your football ability.... Fans are singing the chant -because you are GUTLESS I will give the players one last chance.... I will attend the Hartlepool game and expect a minimum of 100% effort - and even some lung-busting (( irrespective of a must-win result. ))... If I don't get it, after 60 years of faithful support - and despite possessing two season tickets, I will not bother to waste my time and 100% effort and very hard ( 'life-threatened'), earned money.... ..... and as for my Gills shirts - I wouldn't use them to wipe my ar$e. My $hitty ar$e deserves more respect.
I give 100% of hard-earned money - not 50%....At games ( or on television ), I am sad enough to study the movement ( or lack thereof ), of players in the vicinity of the ball... With the Gills players, the effort that goes into being close to the action has little to do with skill / ability etc - it's about hard work, and a positive mindset to want to be 'engaged' - what I see, too often is apathy - and that is unacceptable. Since posting my opening comments, my older son has told me that he too no longer wants to go to matches - so that's two adult season tickets I've wasted - and to rub it in for me even more - my younger son - for whom I pay for a 3rd adult (matchday -dearer than season ) ticket, has told me to not get him another ticket for the rest of the season.................. It looks like I'm going to be 'quids in' next season.
Yours is an excellent, albeit incredibly sad example of how I suspect many hundreds if not thousands of loyal Gills fans are feeling Always. Right on that tipping point of saying ‘no more’. Personally, I‘ve been on the brink of walking away for good for a couple of years. I acknowledge that sounds like apathy on my part, but it’s a consequence of the apathy we’ve experienced from board room to pitch over that time. The new majority shareholder has provided a spark of optimism which might yet ensure my support goes on. It will however, require significant changes in the coming days to management and playing personnel to prove to me that the new owners recognise: a) just how perilous our current situation is; and b) that the lifeblood of this club, loyal supporters like us, have been short changed and treated with contempt for a long time.
Lord Sondes - as I see it, the Club was 'taken over' on 23rd December.... I would have expected that Gallinson would have been told of various 'targets' on a wish list - long before the transfer window opened.. Gallinson has said he wants to be 'aggressive' in the transfer window - so - is it too much to expect at least two ( or more ) additional players before we play Hartlepool.... I won't be impressed with just Nichols - and even less happy if we wait until almost February for the new faces... unless my definition of 'Aggressive' is different to the American housebuilder.
I had choice to go to watch last home game against Colchester, I declined. Think made right decision. No not enjoying watching Gills for a few years. Was hoping Harris would change that. Unfortunately we are even worse as him as manager!
gioblues - I am sure you have read reports on that game - but - they exaggerated how 'good ' was the Gills performance ---- no words can describe how bad it was...I can't even begin - although I did have a stab at it when I mentioned 'gutless.' - and that is my main gripe - I can almost forgive 'uselessness' - but not disinterest.
