The point is it draws in players and takes them out of the game, allowing players like Seri and Doc more room to work. The reason Seri was so dominant last night was because their front four was busy pressing and it opened up the gaps for him to work in. The mistake was on Ingram, but that isn’t going to cost us every single game.
Two goals conceded to daft mistakes otherwise we'd have conceded only 4 in 7 Whose fault was it when we conceded 19 in 7? Im much more content with rosie in charge over shota and now weve pulled away a tad from the drop, think a huge weights lifted Onwards to more points and even an occasional mistake
I completely agree that if there is a better pass on then play it forward but if there isn’t then there is nothing wrong with going back to the keeper to start again. People are criticising the policy of playing out from the back not just when it goes back to the keeper. In my view the tactic is evolving as the players get the confidence to play to keep possession. Of course there are risks and it is about making the right decision. On the other hand, just booting it upfield and giving away possession also invites pressure. I would rather see us play football.
There's a difference between a goalkeeper playing it to a defender who then plays it out to a midfielder on the wing and a goalkeeper playing it to a defender who promptly passes it back to a goalkeeper what is the point of the latter?
too many times our defenders panic and lose the ball in dangerous areas why not concentrate on our players finding space and passing to them there's a lot less risk
you seem to think that there is only two options: (a) passing the ball around inside the penalty area, and (b) booting it upfield and lose possession I would urge you to consider a third option: passing the ball out of defence to unmarked players the theory about playing out from the back is to pass forward if possible if not possible, play sideways if not possible, play it back playing it around at the back is a different tactic one which, experience shows, requires players comfortable on the ball and good at passing let's get those players first before choosing this tactic People talk about Seri's good passes they seem to ignore the times he passes to opponents under no pressure at all
The reason he plays for us and not a top European team is as you state in your last paragraph, he does tend to play a stray pass at times. But I'll take that as what he brings to us far outweighs it
The stats this season show Seri has the highest passing accuracy of our midfield, with 90%. He makes 65 passes a match on average. They probably ignore them because they’re pretty infrequent.
He was 5th overall last season in the champ and I think this season there's only 5 teams with a better passing accuracy then us overall ( don't quote me as I'm going off memory) I think we are at approx 77%
You tend to find players that play high risk passes like him have quite low passing accuracy. De Bruyne 79% Bruno Fernandes 79% Albeit they’re more 10s but high risk high reward like you say. I’ll take 10+ passes into their final third every game for an occasional misplaced pass
