Not sure what NJ is looking for, in a player, but it worries me that he described Djenepo and Diallo as being “aggressive - front footed with energy”.
He's only seen them in training, not in actual games. It seems it only took him 45 minutes to see that they aren't good enough. That's at least promising on his part. Ralph obviously felt Djenepo was good enough for another 3 year contract for f*ck's sake.
Djenepo done well at LB to be fair. I'd be happy to keep him as cover for that position. Our squad's a bit of a mess, we need to sort out our midfield, get a good partnership at CB and bring a striker in. Personally, I'd remove the captaincy of JWP - good player but we need a captain who will kick his own team up the arse when required. Not sure we have someone like that either! We need a couple of singings, and we need them asap. The board should know this and get it done early... If not, well, there's no excuses. Onwards and upwards!
Tbh if we can get a “leader” at CB, CM and ST we would be massively improved so I’m not against signing a CB. All depends on funds though as if we can only afford a couple of players then CB shouldn’t be one of them
Yeah, that's the problem. JWP is miles away from being captaincy material - but I struggle to see anyone in our side who is. One or two of them might grow into that role as they get older, but not yet. Referees must love it when they get our games. We need to recruit a CM anyway. So I would have no problem with us looking for one who could come into the side as captain.
Please Saints, do our transfer business early if possible, don’t leave to the last days ……time is off the essence.
We will probably end up signing someone from Luton Town! The suggestion that Bednarek might come back is laughable. He has burnt his bridges and would not like to see him return. Not so sure Burnely would let Tella return or if a recall would prompt them to make the deal permanent, If I am honest, I would like to see us cash in on JWP. Think we have had the best of him and cannot see what he contributes when he isn't scoring goals from free kicks or assisitng with corners, The team's form is so reliant on him playing well.
On his form of this season, i'm not sure there will be that many offers for him currently. He is missing his main partner of the last 5 seasons massively, especially when Lavia is not playing. It could also be a confidence issue that might be resolved if he nets one of his free kick specials and he's normally bagged at least a couple before Xmas
I just feel that Jones will want to bring in players he has worked with previously. A lot of Saints fans are likely to be underwhelmed by this transfer window,
Jones doesn't have the final say when it comes to transfers. He'll have an input on the type of player we need, but I can say with a fair amount of confidence we won't sign anyone from Luton (or Stoke).
