Corbyn, like a true Left Winger, wanted us out of the EU. Part of his downfall was not making his views more open and giving in to the more centrist of the Labour Party
I know he did Stainsey, but how much worse it would have been if HE had taken us out of the EU and not the "floppy-haired cuddly funny cheeky bear" Boris. Much much worse
Of course that’s what they want us to think….it’s all in the mind. That horrible, nasty old man CORBYN That cuddly little cherub BORIS. Sadly many fell for it
I'm just jolly glad we didn't have chaos with Ed Miliband, and have instead enjoyed stability and strong govt since 2015.
Sadly the media use our own minds against us and use it to manipulate. I had a great example on Facebook this morning, when one of my colleagues and a fellow striker, took it upon himself to slag off Royal Mail (Strikers) for “ruining his Christmas”, presumably because something hadn’t arrived in the post.......I think it was lost on him that the media want us to fight amongst ourselves, and think that one is more deserved of decent pay and conditions than the other. I find it truly bizarre that people don’t see the obvious
Yesterday I spent twelve and a half hours in A&E, which perfectly illustrated today's NHS. I was having severe abdominal pain that had lasted for three days and I decided it probably needed checking. I called my GP surgery and I couldn't even speak to any of the doctors as they were booked up. I then phoned 111 and gave up after being on hold for over an hour. Then I went on the 111 website which told me that either, I should call 999 or had covid, depending on how I answered the irrelevant questions!! Eventually I got driven to A&E, arriving at 145pm. I was triaged reasonably quickly, having the usual basic tests. After another hour or so I saw an A&E doctor who examined me and organised urine and blood tests. Another hour or so and I had the blood taken and was given an ECG at the same time. Then there was a longish wait to see a general surgeon with my results (suspected appendicitis etc). As I sat in the waiting area I had a bird's-eye view of how the place was running. Ambulance crews coming and going to book in arrivals, nurses and doctors rushing around, all looking pretty stressed, but all with excellent people skills with the wide variety of human life that came through. All the while, the place was getting busier and busier. Eventually, around 630pm I saw the surgeon who said that the bloods were all good, but he suspected two or three other causes and wanted to send me for a scan. He told me to go back to the waiting area and I'd be called. 7 hours later I was still trying to track down my scan appointment and several different, mega busy staff tried in vain to track down any information about me whatsoever. At 130am I told them I was discharging myself. At that moment a doctor appeared and said he had a trauma to deal with and then he'd see me. 30 minutes later he called me. Apparently the general surgery doctor had gone home and not told anyone about me. A&E can't access general surgery notes etc etc. He finally told me to go home around 215am with a vague diagnosis and even stranger follow up for the next day. He directed me to the wrong department for this!! The point of this ridiculously long post is to highlight both how utterly fantastic our NHS is along with the people who work in it (I had an awful lot of important tests in that visit) and also how ridiculously over stretched it is. The doctor who "forgot" about me had been bleeped while I was with him to attend a paediatric trauma that was incoming. No doubt he was frazzled!! Our NHS and it's staff is worth fighting for, but does need some kind of reform imo to get it off its knees. This government's attitude towards it is shameful.
Hope you’re ok mate. Your post pretty much sums up a usual day in A&E. I wish I had some constructive answers…..sadly I don’t.
First of all, Col, I do hope you are feeling better and that they have an idea about what is the problem, and that you are recovered for Christmas. My daughter had such a very similar experience, with very similar symptoms. She too failed to get any joy from GP and so took herself off to A&E and had a long wait overnight, loads of tests and scans ...a discharged ( no sepsis, no ectopic pregnancy and no appendicitis)...and told to come back if worse. 2 days later it was far worse. Phoned 111 who told her to go immediately to the Whittington, and someone would see her asap.....she went, but they had no knowledge of her...and told her it was a 12 hour wait (Friday night), ..but a nurse said there was a GP hub open on Saturday ( I have never heard of this, but it appears to help out GPs under pressure). She was seen 10 am next day, more tests but antibiotics given... And a week later she seems so much better. So agree with Col, everyone she met did or tried to do their best. But the facilities to do their best was not there...not enough doctors, space, ability to think. NHS is not perfect....but it has been allowed to disintegrate, and is spiralling out of control. We are losing a national jewel. I know who to blame both now and in the past
Not a good day for you, hopefully all ok now, or at least getting some treatment? My wife moved away from the hospital setting a few years back as she was hitting burn out, and now runs a medical team in the local prison, still under the NHS. Woefully under-funded and under-staffed they work in very challenging environment. Friends she's got who are still at the hospital say it's a lot worse...and it's not just your government, it's the same up here
Col, hope you’re feeling better. Sadly, yours is a familiar story being told all over the country. I had a comparable experience with my daughter a few weeks back. Unfortunately, everywhere you look the country and its services are broken. I don’t see a solution that isn’t going to really hurt.
Sorry to hear you were unwell, Col, and hope you get a good diagnosis and get it fixed. I had appendicitis in my youth and I remember I couldn't keep any food down. As I understand it, the NHS isn't starved of cash, so it's an organisational/efficiency issue. It needs a major overhaul, Wes Streeting says he is the man to carry it out, so maybe this a challenge for an incoming Labour government
Hope you're okay Col and feeling better....... Unfortunately the NHS is just a black hole for money and it doesn't matter how much is thrown at it, it will always be thus and it doesn't matter which party is in power....... From afar it appears to be top loaded with management and middle management and under staffed in the areas where the important work is carried out, ie caring for those that are ill...... We have the same problems over here with over crowding in A & E, people on trolleys for hours on end either waiting to be seen by a Doctor or awaiting admission, over worked and under paid and poor retention of staff........ I don't know how these situations will be reversed and we pay for our treatments here, it's not free at the point of entry, so how anyone expects the NHS to be better funded without huge increases in taxation to pay for it....... it will get worse before it gets better......
@Staines R's just been catching up and noticed the old B word being mentioned, yeah we’re never going to agree there and that’s more than cool, my one question is do you feel the leave campaign and how it was promoted in pro leave media was a decent representation as to why you wanted out? It doesn’t matter now as it got you the result you were after, but I get the feeling the narratives pushed by those with the biggest voices didn’t really represent your views. There’s no hidden agenda here just curious, I think if that had been the case for me it’d be like knocking Chelsea out of the cup with an offside goal, yeah a little annoyed but **** it the result is what matters.
I would say you’ve pretty much hit the nail on the head there Wills. Yes the Leave campaign was dominated by the flag waving, jingoistic right of centre who’s main cry was “to take our borders back”, backed by publications like the Mail and Express. The Left Wing cause for Brexit, and the reasonings behind it were, and still are mostly ignored. However, and I once again state my point, I truly feel that the view given over by the Pro-EU side, that the EU is on the side of workers in Europe is totally wrong. The EU in is current form is firmly on the side of big business. To say that work rights and reforms are all down to membership of the EU is an absolute disservice to the British trade union movement, and now its in our hands to keep those rights, that will most definitely be attacked by the current Tory government. This is our opportunity to make things better in this country……and I genuinely feel that we can take it. Your Chelsea analogy does strike a chord with me for sure
I suspect to a degree the coverage cemented my choice, I’d have hated chucking my lot in with all them, which at times can be cutting off my nose to spite my face I’ve always appreciated your and a proportion of the leave vote had **** all to do with all that bollocks, it would have annoyed the **** out of me having Farage and the likes hijacking the real issues you wanted heard. The one thing I’ll always have to remind you though, is you voted the same way as Mogg, you bloody elitist … and your vote helped that **** make millions
