again we drop points against a team we should be beating at home.
    so what do we do?
do we buy big in january and get a world class striker in? if so who?
ok we all know suarez is an outstanding player and he will score goals, but who do we have to compare to him?
fact is we have nobody up front who i can remember of the days of owen and fowler.and how many years is that?
we need to get somebody in,a natural goalscorer a poacher or as i see it a proven goal scorer.if not i tell you my friends as i can see it the champs league place at the moment is def out of our reach.:emoticon-0107-sweat

Kenny Dalglish admitted his side had to improve following a goalless draw with Swansea on Saturday.

here were chances at both ends but the afternoon ended with a third successive home draw for the Reds.

Dalglish reflected: "Our performance was disappointing. Swansea played the way we expected them to play but we didn't play the way we expected to play. Maybe if the chance went in early doors it would have changed the complexion of the game but as well as paying credit to Swansea we have to look at ourselves.

"Anything we're good at we didn't do much of today. We're usually good at passing and movement but there wasn't much of that there. When we got it back we gave it away quickly.

"We've got to understand, realise and accept that that level of performance isn't acceptable."

Andy Carroll hit the crossbar to make it 10 times this season that Liverpool have been denied by the woodwork.

"Even at the death the goalie's made a couple of good saves," Dalglish added.

"We must be getting closer if the goalkeeper was tested today - usually we miss the target! That's 11 (sic) times we've hit the post or the bar this season.

"The most important thing is to create the chances, the next is to put them away.

"There's no one in the history of football who's deliberately missed a chance, we just need to keep working on it, getting in there. But we never got in there today as much as we have done in past games. That was a disappointing thing for us."

Asked about Steven Gerrard's fitness following an ankle infection, Dalglish added: "He's fine. As we said Thursday, the figures are hugely encouraging. He's well on his way to recovery."

I tell you what he should be doing, he should be looking at what Newcastle are doing right that we're doing wrong.

They're scoring for fun at the moment, with players they haven't paid tuppence for. People are saying well, they haven't played the big boys yet. Yeah. Well, we've played the little boys and we're getting nowhere. So spot the bloody difference.

Time for Kenny to look at the players letting the side down. Downing for one.

Dunno why the author of this added a sic. As far as I was aware it was 10 before the game.

We've seen some irritatingly good perfomances from a coupla keepers. A bit weird that two attacking teams still end up with a 0-0 but hey ho, we're still unbeaten in however many games now, another clean sheet is good and again creating the chances.

So did Hull on promotion. So did WBA and Blackpool. Teams who come up and attack catch the PL teams out and get great starts but sustaining it never seems to happen. Why is that? Let's ask Newcastle fans in May.

But Muppetfinder, them coming out and attacking surely should have helped us and opened the game out? It's not like them attacking was the issue since our defence pulled through but OUR attacking was below par. If anything if Swansea had been more closed a la Stoke, then we probably would have struggled even more!

I'm not saying they didn't, and I'm not saying Newcastle will be able to sustain it. What I am saying is right now they're getting the results and we aren't. In May they have done enough to stay above us.

They're beating the teams we should be beating to stay in the hunt, and we're not doing it. Not consistently, anyway. Draws aren't enough, we know that.

And I'm not buying this crap about our new squad not 'gelling', either. FFS we've paid a bloody fortune for some of our players and if they can't gel with their team mates there's something ****in' wrong!

I've said this before and I'll say it again: there's a difference between excuses and reasons. The Newcastle scenario and the not gelling are excuses, they're not reasons. What are the reasons? Pass. If I knew I would be on the phone to Kenny explaining it. All I do know is something isn't right.

It's pity that we now have to endure a useless International break! If not then Kenny and Steve Clarke would have initiated a new training regiem on Monday. Gone would be shooting practice and it would be replaced by Missing Practice. After all, when we try and score we miss - so if we try to miss we are bound to score. <laugh>

And furthermore Newcastle aren't your common-or-garden Championship side that made it and slipped down again, they've been in the Prem League for years except that one season. They've had issues with Mike Ashley, there have been rumblings from the fans. They've had their problems, yet suddenly they're up there. We haven't expected it, neither, I suspect, have they, and we need to take ALL TEAMS into account!

Suarez plays like he's played for us all his life. He just gets on with it, but -

What scares me a little is he may go the same way as Torres, gets pissed off and goes elsewhere. For what overseas players do have a tendency to do is to think with their pockets. Torres is a ****in' glory hunter and is getting his eye wiped atm. Suarez may not be like that, but who knows? If he thinks there's something lacking...not much patience.

So what your saying is 2 home wins from 6 is good enough, with 2 of those matches against promoted sides..We have struggled in every prem home fixture this year, apart from Bolton. We should be happy with that, we shouldnt complain, your saying our expectation are too high, despite finishing 6th last year, and spending £100m in transfers since January

This is the problem here, expectations are extremely high because people think Kenny is this invincible man with a magic wand who can do no wrong and get results just like that. Also spending £100m+ doesn't help maters either, but as soon as things don't go our way people jump on the band wagon and start to ask silly questions.

Kenny is never the man to bring us loads of glory, he was the man to turn this club around and it will take a couple of seasons to get bedded. We are still a work in progress and I'm sure we will come good. As someone MFG pointed out we are still unbeaten in however many games and are these type of results really that much different from the 08/09 season?

I don't think everyone needs to have positive approach to the situation, I was pissed off with our performance yesterday but to call for a change of manager is ludicrous. I'm not saying that because it's Kenny in charge, but if it were any manager it would be no different imo.

I am not saying Kenny should be getting fired or anything like that either. What I am saying is some fans are letting the manager get away with making A LOT of bad decisions, because Kenny is the manager.
Wenger was getting loads of grief from Arsenal fans at the start of the season, because of his reluctance to spend.I ceratinly think that the fan/media pressure contributed to Wenger going on a last week splurge before the window shut.If Arsenal hadnt have done that they would be way off the pace now, because they did they are still well in the hunt for CL
Perhaps a bit of fan pressure now,may turn Kennys head away from mediocre Brits, and perhaps turn our attention to a Hazard or Goetze in future.

Plus if the team aint performin the manager should expect criticism no matter WHO he is

What should be interesting is what FSGs response would be at the end of the season if Kenny doesnt get MINIMUM REQUIREMENT TOP 4(J W Henrys words).I have a feeling that FSG may not be quite as forgiving as some fans after Kenny has spent £40m of there hard earned cash, if he doent get a CL place

Top 4 is a lot to ask if you consider the top 6 teams are City, Utd, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool and you can chuck Newcastle in the mix for the time being. Adam, Downing, Carroll and Henderson (will be but not yet) are not the type of players to match the quality of the afore mentioned teams to get us a top 4 finish, but they are the best we can get at the minute. Like I said, our expectations are too high! 6th would be an OK finish, 5th would be great...As for top 4 we can only dream. <ok>

What will be interesting is what will happen in the January transfer window. As many people have mentioned before, we are still a work in progress and instant success is not guaranteed nor should it be expected.

Yes - we should have beaten the likes of Swansea, Norwich and Sunderland at home but then again, we beat Arsenal, WBA and Everton away which are games we would normally struggle in. It's just a shame we can't win our home games as we normally do in previous seasons but I believe it's because the players get nervous. If we don't score early, the fans will go quiet and it can be quite tense. Maybe this stems from Roy's time at the club?

Also, we are trying to shoe horn Carroll into team. He should not be starting at all, he should be training hard and learning to adapt to LIVERPOOL's style of play and not the other way round. I remember last season where we hit great form by playing Kuyt up front, Suarez behind him and using Maxi on the wing. The movement was fantastic. I think we should be using Kuyt up front instead of on the wing where is borderline on useless - he has great movement and intelligence but he needs to be closer to goal as he has no pace. If not, then we need to buy a proper striker. Someone who is relatively quick - both with his feet and in his mind, and is also composed.

Then we need to buy a right winger, someone with pace but also knows what to do with the ball. We can be extremely slow in our attacks and on the counter which is really frustrating.

Watching Xabi Alonso today and it made me appreciate what he did for us, his passing was exceptional. He would pick the ball up from defence and just dictate the tempo. Always in space, always available and then can pick the right ball perfectly. Our central midfield is still far too weak.

All in all, we have played better than what the table shows - we have been attacking, created a lot of chances and have simply been wasteful/unlucky in front of goal.

Let's turn this whole argument on its head and just look at what has been achieved.

BACK 4. From a positon where we had to rely upon kids to save us, we can now call upon a unit that comprises 5 full internationals, 1 former international, 1 U21 international and 1 potential international + the kids.

We are not leaking goals and offer opponents one of the fewest opportunities to score against us.

As importantly we have proved to ourselves that we can play and defend without Carra.

    MIDFIELD

We have 6 full internationals and a promising yougster. We proved lasy year that we could play and win without Gerrard but would obviously welcome back such a quality player.

    STRIKERS

In Suarez we have one of the most excieting forwards in the world. In Carroll we know that we have potential (no matter what others may say).

On top of that we have a mini-squad of youth players who either are in the first squad or can be introduced.

Perhaps more importantly we have got rid of the 'deadwood' that was stagnating our squad.

We have owners who are prepared to invest in our future (ground and team) but who also have resisted the temptation to make 'marquee' signings - even Suarez was not considered as such.

We have come a very long way since this time last year and we have the tools to go a lot further. We are still work in progress of that there is no doubt. We may well enter the market when the window opens, but I firmly believe that it will be too add quality and not plug holes.

With the exception of City and Newcastle. none of our rivals for the top 4 can really say that they are on the top of their form. Let's see what happens as the weather changes, the cup competitions start to bite and we find our 'shooting boots'.

Listen lads dont beat yourself up about it, we have played Arsenal and Chelsea away and we have played the same way and it took them 70 mins to get the better of us, in fact we should have drawn at worst with the gooners and could easily have done them over, the thing is Swansea are unknown to some of the big hitters in this league and we will surprise a few more before may, we play with the same philosophy whoever we play, our players are very confident on the ball and each are very good passers of the ball, we will play man u next and we will play the same way, dont worry the reds will be there or thereabouts come may
