Beautiful and plaintive song. I could imagine that getting to me after a few beers. I 'd bet Heaton would sing in a different key now if he did it live.
Sheeee's baaaaaaccckkkkk! https://www.clashmusic.com/live/sio...itude-her-first-live-performance-in-10-years/ Great news! Her legacy has been lost to too many (not on here!). Now, please do some more...and not in 10 years!
I've just watched the Mortimer and Whitehouse go fishing Christmas special from last year, seen it before but having Heaton and Gazza in the same show and also Bob catching that salmon , it just warms my heart plus the sketch with Ted's adoption papers and Bob putting pickled onions in his eyes
Some well connected people are suggesting that it isn't going to happen, as she said "no".... ...shades of the non-existent Saturday Ally Pally Damned gig?
It was a particularly fine episode, although in all fairness I could happily watch those two for hours! I love the banter between them. There was a bit in the last series where Bob decided he was going to drink a bottle of lemonade down in one because that's what the kids do and the consequence of that was he got all gassy and ended up on his knees but the interplay with Paul was superb and comes from the fact that they've genuinely got real affection for each other! Actually, perhaps I'm getting old, but this Christmas there appears to be a number of cracking specials. Alongside the latest Bob and Paul there's also a new Detectorists special as well as Motherland, featuring my favourite Diane Morgan, and Two Doors Down!
We're due to go to The 100 Club tomorrow, to see Johnny Moped. We've both got colds, there's the train strike and....well....I'm not the world's biggest fan, truth to tell. Mrs B's Facebook is full of people crying off due to illness and transport prices. At what point do you just say "**** it. I'm old, cold, tired and just can't be bothered?" Pre-Covid, we went to 3 gigs in 8 January days, despite feeling like crap. Is this getting old? I don't like it.
Three people remain in a critical condition after being injured in a crush at a gig at the Brixton O2 Academy that left several others hurt: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63996981 Been to lots of gigs there and never had any trouble. Sounds like a large group of people turned up and rushed the doors.
**** the Tories. Surprising absolutely nobody, they were coked up to the eyeballs: https://www.theguardian.com/politic...in-liz-truss-grace-and-favour-house-say-staff
I was discussing this with Mrs B earlier... Last time we went to that venue was for Amyl & The Sniffers. We turned up early, as we wanted to see Bob Vylan. There were about 50 punters milling about outside the venue and more security than I see in most places. They had a 'rat-run' of barriers running back and forth to the right of the entrance. We went through them pretty quickly and got to the entrance where we started to encounter problems from a couple of the security staff. A couple of them were really, ridiculously officious and unpleasant, emptying out of all of Mrs B's very small 'gig bag', dropping stuff and giving her plenty of unpleasant verbals. It was that bad, that Mrs B wrote to the venue to tell them that, after decades of gig going, at innumerable venues, she was writing her first letter of complaint. No response...unfortunately! The two things may have zero to do with each other, but I'm not immediately trusting that it was ticketless fans trying to force entry. That line's been used before to excuse other failings...
I have to say I absolutely hate the Brixton Academy! I've been going to gigs for more than 40 years and in that time I've only ever been to 4 gigs there, The Clash in '84 on their Out of Control tour, The Smiths in '85 on their Meat is Murder tour, The Butthole Surfers in '88 and finally the Buzzcocks the following year when they reformed with the classic line up. The one thing all four gigs had in common is the fact that the sound was abysmal, and coupled with that ridiculously sloping floor made for a really unenjoyable experience! I was never a huge fan of the Lyceum as the acoustics were never that great in there but it still pissed all over the Academy. Maybe the sound has improved there since 1989? Although as it used to go straight up rather than out front, unless they've addressed that, the acoustics won't be much better I'd have thought!
The sound there for Amyl & The Sniffers was bloody awful. I've compared that to the BBC footage from Glastonbury and it's 1000 times better in a tent. I've seen 20+ gigs there and I'm normally far enough forward that the sound is OK but last time we went, we were with Mrs B's creepy brother in law, who's a bit of a delicate flower, so we were over half way to the back. It was all over the place and we left early. Was at The Miner's Christmas Party gig, which mostly featured the audience shouting "Where's Mick?"...and Strummer getting seriously pissed off. I can't remember if that was before or after the Out of Control Tour but without Mick and Topper, the magic had largely gone.
The last time ( it will be the last time ) we went to the Brixton Academy Mrs Conn had her bag snatched as we were leaving the venue , not much in it but a nasty experience as they cut the strap that was round her neck despite the so called security outside the venue
We made it up to The 100 Club, which was a lot emptier than it should have been. An excellent night was had by all in attendance, but this was sent (by someone else) to a mate who made his excuses... "You have nothing to apologise for. Mind you what a night, bloody hell, it must of been something in the air, all the bands played their best ever gigs all on the same night, the crowd was all saying how it was the best show ever. Everyone took all their clothes off and someone found this huge amount of money and shared it out but not to worry, apart from that you didn't miss much. GET WELL SOON CHAP AND HAPPY CHRISTMAS XXXX"
