THE Irish FA is pleased to announce that Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Lee Camp has been cleared to play for Northern Ireland by the FIFA Players' Status Committee. Born in Derby, the 26-year-old qualifies to play for Northern Ireland through his Newtownards-born grandfather. ââ¬ÅI am delighted that clearance has come through for Lee to play for us,ââ¬Â said Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington. ââ¬ÅIt has taken a bit of time, but the patience has paid off. This is a big plus and it is testament to the quality we have in the squad that players of Leeââ¬â¢s calibre want to come and play for Northern Ireland. I have spoken to Lee and he is absolutely delighted that he has been cleared to represent the birthplace of his grandfather.ââ¬Â Lee Camp said: ââ¬ÅI am thrilled that I am now able to play International football for Northern Ireland. It seems like I have been waiting forever for the relevant paperwork to be sorted out with FIFA, but now that I have been given the green light I am looking forward to the opportunity to join up with the squad. I would like to thank Nigel Worthington for his patience and for giving me the chance to become involved in the Northern Ireland team.ââ¬Â http://www.irishfa.com/international/item/6279/lee-camp-cleared-to-play-for-ni/ Great news considering big Maik isn't getting any younger.
Very important that we got a keeper lined up for NI. As you say, oul Maik's days are coming to an end, he rarely starts for Birmingham bar an early round of one of cup competitions - whereas Lee Camp is a regular starter for one of the promotion hopefuls. With a bit of luck, the tricky trees will get promoted......
Think it's great news for N.I. Forest only conceded something like 25 goals this season.Only team with less is Q.P.R. who are top of the Championship. At 26 he has another good 10/15 years in front of him. Hopefully where Lee leads others will follow. Just read on the RoI 606 page that Connor Wickhams' Da is from O.W.C. C'mon Mr. Wickham, time to knock a bit of sense into that young lad of yours.
Fantastic news. Always been rated as a top keeper at Championship level and won 5 England U-21 caps. We were looking severely limited for options in goals with Tuffey and Blaney appearing to be perfecting their stand up comedy routines in recent friendlies, rather than staking a claim to be Maik's successor.
Maybe Tuffey, who I thought wasn't too bad and a good prospect when at Partick, will get his ass in gear and get a move to a team where he will get first team football every week. Think he has played once since he moved to Inverness.
