Kempton used to be a local track for me for many years, along with Sandown and Hurst Park (latter closed for good around 1962). The Kempton Polytrack is scheiss IMHO and, regardless of the NH turf track which still operates, I think the place should be closed-down and redeveloped for housing, like Hurst Park. Sandown Park is a nutural amphitheatre and a superb racecourse and should stay put. Just an opinion and many will disagree, but for me, Kempton's had its day.

I don't fully understand what you are getting at. You are often too busy at work to be able to concentrate on selections (your words) so I would say your energy is well-chanelled. As fpr 'people' having something to channel their energy, what the heck, 'people' who like horseracing and bet regularly are a tiny minority, and so the majority would surely choose other ways to make their lives interesting and fruitful?

No, I stick with my thoughts on Kempton, it should be closed and redeveloped for much-needed housing. The big problem here, I must admit, is that with the current UK government in power, "housing for whom?"

I have an issue with Kempton, it is being run to fail, and the course is on prime development land. Personally I would like to see them run the place for the benefit of the sport, but that isn't going to happen. So instead I am enjoying it for the sprint handicaps on the sand and then the one good race a year in the King George over fences.

It should be a great course for both All Weather and Jumps racing, however its just being made worse by neglect from the owners.

As for Sandown being a natural amphitheater.... well if you like watching trains or having a view over the big smog it is. Personally I love Sandown for the railway fences and the jumping test, but its another course that should be doing much better than it is. That said, its the general malaise of jumps racing that is really pissing me off.

Good points, Nass. Must have been enraptured with the racing as I hardly noticed the trains. Never used the train, just the bus back to Kingston, or a walk back from Esher along the Portsmouth Road when I was skint! Yes, I think the Sandown management could do better. All-in-all, a good racecourse though.
