So a few idiots storming Wembley means you hate all England fans and want your own country to lose a World Cup quarter final this weekend? That sort of thinking says more about you than you realise
2000 fans is hardly "a few" - and that's ignoring the other arrests Want to know why I have a low opinion of England fans? Well apart from their support base seems to be made up of casting a net into Stamford Bridge, Upton Park and Goodison Park and hauling in the dank, smelly stuff at the bottom, here's a track record of why Euro 2004 - Croydon got trashed after Portugal dumped England out in the quarters 2006 WC - Croydon got trashed after Portugal dumped England out in the quarters Euro 2008 - Croydon left intact. There's a reason for that 2010 WC - Croydon got trashed after Germany dumped England out in the round of 16 Euro 2012 - Croydon got trashed after Italy dumped England out in the quarters 2014 WC - Croydon amazingly didn't get trashed after England were knocked out in the group stage Euro 2016 - Croydon got trashed after Iceland dumped England out in the round of 16 2018 World Cup - Croydon got trashed after Croatia beat England in the semi final Euro 2020 - Croydon got trashed before the final, and further trashed after Italy beat England in the final Funny how I have no interest in following a team whose fanbase are only good for throwing a massive temper tantrum after their team loses that causes masses of property damage, and last summer decided they couldn't wait for matches to kick off before trashing the place England are the West Ham of world football, in every way that is not a good thing
Gotta be honest but I don't get the problem with supporting France over England in the world cup or in any other team or in any other sport.
You’re just looking for excuses to not support the national team imo. Spurs have plenty of idiot fans but doesn’t mean I’d not want Spurs to win matches.
My family were from Trinidad. I'm English. I'd support Trinidad if they played like I did in the 2006 World Cup. I guess that's why I don't get the issue. Edit. Never wanted England to win when the racist cock John Terry played (always want Uruguay to lose when racist Suarez plays).
You were supporting a team you had a connection to. To be honest, I prefer the days when we all follow our local teams, rather than whoever is the best team at the time. It's tribal and about local identity. In the famous cricket test, I have no issue with people of an asian background supporting India (for example) because there is a connection.
I don't think people need a reason to support a team other than the fact they like them. I do find it very weird to claim not to support a team because they have a few ****ers in their fan base though, with that set as a criteria you wouldn't be able to support a single top end side in Europe either league or national form.
I don't get supporting a team you have no connection to but I guess that's an age thing. My cousins lived in Wood Green near Turn Pike Lane and I spent a lot of time there as a young kid so from seven I was a spur. My kids follow spurs cos of me. But there was a 24 yr old in work who was a City fan...never been north of Watford and all his family live in SE London ... used to squirm when I asked why he hid his manc accent
There were times when I lost interest in England. Sven being appointed didn’t sit right with me and then the team becoming full of players I didn’t like from rival clubs), then the McClaren, Capello, Hodgson reigns etc but I would never actively hope they’d lose a game like HBIC does. Club football is different, let people support who they want but I always thought it was natural to support your country.
I am completely meh about WC 2022, other than hoping Spurs players do not return seriously injured. As for the national teams, I am usually meh. If they do well - good for them (it has nothing to do with my support) . If they don't - meh (,my opinions did not affect the results) . But to hope/wish the national teams fail miserably, or denigrate those who wish to more vocally support them. well that shouts to me of far more concerning (mental) issues ...
