I'm area control, in a car. Most places here don't bother having a guard standing at the door like in the UK. Which is mad
Thing is mate, I've seen shop lifters before that are tooled up, no way would I even tell security, because they are not armed and it's not worth a life, to save a corporates profits.
I've approached shoplifters with knives on a few occasions now, I never hesitate to let them leave. It's nowhere near worth my life. Tbh, 5% on average are caught, it's rare to even notice people are stealing let alone to actually catch them. Prevention is the best solution, which is now the method we find working in the UK
Sensible approach mate. Deterrent is the idea, if the uniform and cameras fail to deter them, then there is not a lot else you can do. Even trying to weigh each situation up, always carrys the risk of the unknown. I used to know a security guy, but he had big fook off German Shepherds in the back of the van, even then it was all bark as the deterrent. He use to protect secured businesses of a night so could let the dogs run free.
They do tend to change the attitude of people. Turned up at many a bar fight with the dog and it disperses quickly.
I agree mate - I've always been ok with dogs, even ones that tend to have a lot of bark, but these particular dogs, made me be aware of the space between me and them
My brother mixes in different circles to me. One of his best mates is a chief super in the Met. He was telling me a story about the Tottenham riots when they were called to a big electrical shop that was getting looted. The K9 unit had turned up and he shouted to the last of the looters in the shop 'We know you're in there, so come out now, otherwise we'll send in the dogs'. In the noise and commotion, all the dog handler heard was '.....send in the dogs' and so he did lol Those muthas got torn to shreds.
Oh yeah I had one absolute savage that only I could go near. Good story there she stopped me being attacked by a nutter with a hammer and tried to attack the Prime Minister.
If i burgled your gaff id hook that lil fella on the coat rack to save me stepping on him by accident
Yeah, problem we have here is the laws in place heavily favour the criminals. Guards in Sweden have batons and spray for self protection, but in Norway basically nothing at all is allowed. It's quite common for us to ring the coppers and inform them we will have to do something physical as evidence we haven't been aggressive. It's not a job for the faint of heart, but I actually really enjoy it. I used to work in an office back in the UK and that was horrific, guarding is a lot more moving about and difficult situations.
