Oh man, just saw this. Never met Dave, but to those who knew him, my heartfelt condolences on the loss of a good friend. R.I.P. Dave.
I'm shocked and deeply saddened by this awful news, I never had the fortune to have met Dave in person but his kind and gentle personality with a sense of justice stood out from his posts. We shared the same great loves and passion for Saints and music of which he had a deep knowledge of and i'm sure that he had some great stories to tell. Condolences to his family and friends, R.I.P. Dave you'll be sorely missed...
Top man. Thoughts are with his friends and family. I hope they get to see the messages from this forum Very sad - RIP.
I bought a Weather Loach fish for my fish tank yesterday. I don't normally give my fish names but I have decided to call it Dave. I dread to think what Dave would make of that but Im guessing some fish puns.
What can I say about Dave Goodhand? I had the excellent fortune to meet Dave for the first time at one of the Not606 get togethers we organised a few seasons ago at The Farmhouse, followed up with a handful of meetings in the Guide Dog before games as well. Dave was finance director (I think) at one of the truly international perfume and cosmetics companies and brought that sharpness of mind to everything we discussed but always with a great dollop of good humour. How could a man be a keen member of the Southampton Ukelele Jam and not be prepared to laugh at himself? Later on I was lucky to get to meet Dave every six weeks for the past five years when I popped round to his house on business. We had some quite intense discussions: he had a true passion for fairness for everyone in life and wasn't afraid to share it. He also had some very strong opinions about the difference between supporting a team and following a team while whining. He had more than one firm chat at games with nearby negative "supporters" - I'm sure he wouldn't have been able to avoid speaking his mind. He was a Saint through and through and laughed all the time about what a labour of love it is to support Southampton. When Dave fell ill, his good humour never faltered for a second and he looked forward rather than backwards all the time even for several months when he could barely eat. He did think that beer suddenly tasting disgusting was taking the piss, though. In the midst of it all he bought a campervan (despite endless mickey taking about this making him a glorified caravanner) and was planning a long trip across Europe, hopefully taking in a visit to someone off this site not a million miles from Spain. He never, not once, thought he wouldn't be able to do it and was planning hard in his mind until the end. Finally, I'll never forget his boyish enthusiasm when he told me about his Spitfire flight: he was a 12 year old kid again bubbling with excitement at the thrill of it all. I saw a Spitfire a few months ago and Dave immediately popped to mind - I'm sure a sight of that plane will always bring him to mind. I look forward to it. I feel lucky to have known him. One of the good ones. One of the very good ones. Vin
Lovely words Vin. When Dave said that he was considering buying a camper van, to tour Europe, I told him that I would love to meet up with him, if he found himself on the Costa Blanca. That he had bought a camper, and not had the opportunity to follow his plan, makes his loss even sadder.
Bit of a shock, this, though I only knew him on here. Seemed a decent sort of chap, and 67 is no age (not for someone in their 60s anyway). R.I.P. old fella - say hi to Bobby Stokes.
From reading some of these post it sounds like Dave was an absolute legend . Rip dave. Thoughts are with all of you that knew him
Very sorry to hear about Davecg69. Like many on here, I never met him but always felt that he was a voice of reason. It does not surprise me that he was how he was in person as he always came across like that in here. It is fascinating to think that some of the people in here know each other away from this messageboard and meet up before matches. You get an impression in your mind as to the different characters in here , most of whom I would guess are probably my age or older. I have to say that this is a very tolerant and intelligent messageboard. Love the input that people contribute and not just with regards to the football.
