Now that the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool are no longer big clubs, and also now that Chelsea are proving themselves to be fallible and liable to fall outside the top 4 at some point, Adebayor will accept that Spurs are as big as any club out there, and more than capable of winning glory with his assistance. He'll also know that it's only a matter of time before we finally get the stadium that we so thoroughly deserve, and that then we'll be able to pay big club wages. We have more than an ample fan-base to be able to do that. It's not surprising that Ade is making all the right noises about wanting to be a part of the great North London power-shift.
If that happens, at least we should make a good profit if we have to sell him. There are plenty of self-centred footballers around, he's a rank amateur compared to the likes of Tevez. Like I said, if he's got his head screwed on straight, he'll know it's time to cut the tantrums out, and try and rebuild his reputation.
"He'll also know that it's only a matter of time before we finally get the stadium that we so thoroughly deserve, and that then we'll be able to pay big club wages." Err...when do you expect the stadium to be completed?
Its a good point, but i think i speak for all Spurs fans when i say i expect the stadium to be magic'd out the air in time for the 2011-12 season. Top stuff!
Spurs have risen a lot in the last couple of years. There's a good feeling with the club, and they're playing beautifully. It wouldn't be too surprising to see a player like Ade decide it's both smarter and more fun to buy into it, rather than gamble on getting a better deal somewhere else. It also wouldn't be unusual to see a player in his late twenties mature, especially if he seems bright, as Ade does. To me, the fact that he's playing unselfishly means Spurs would be stupid not to make a serious attempt to keep him, though expecting he in turn will take a significant pay cut.
If we got a couple of seasons from him that would be great, there's still plenty of time for a last payday for him. Players now know if they're that way inclined, finish off in the MLS or the Middle East, hopefully he'll see it that way. He's clicked instantly with VdV Bale and Modric and it can only get better. We don't play with fear anymore, so much confidence, I haven't seen this good a football from a Spurs team for....some time! Maybe I'm just hoping!
I did consider that, Lenny. But had I used commonsense, my comment would have been less likely to wind-up PISKIE
You've beat Dunderland at home, Stoke after a EL trip, they've lost every subsequent PL game by the way, and still went 1 behind to beat bottomdwellers Bolton. Loads to get excited about at the Emirates then!
Chelsea??...Genk, QPR, and Terry's shot, probably a small split the dressing room too. Its a good time to play Chelsea and you still conceded 3, most times that would see you buried. Me...blinkered.
So your suggesting that a club that has not won a league title in half a century is as big as any out there (i.e man u, real, barca) and you think we are the deluded ones lol
What major decisions did the ref get wrong? If you're going to go down that route, then you should really mention that your keeper should've been dismissed in the victory that you're talking about, too. He admitted it himself. And in the league? 5 wins, 1 draw, 4 losses. Not quite as convincing. Your away form is very poor, too. Are Arsenal capable of going on a winning run and beating teams that they're better than? Of course. As you've already lost to the side that's bottom of the division, I wouldn't take it as a given, though.
Who's the bigger draw for a player at the moment: Arsenal or City? Money's virtually everything to players now.
He was holding onto Shaun Wright-Philips' shorts. It was a good decision, but one that not many refs would be brave enough to make. I thought that both were quite soft, in all honesty. Luiz' reaction was clearly ridiculous, too. He certainly didn't help himself. They also committed a number of fouls that could and probably should have seen their numbers reduced even further. You're suggesting that a referee may have influenced a team's recent poor run. The same is true of your good run, if you accept that to be true. Disagree. There just isn't any footage of it clearly hitting his arm, so I'm not sure why Arsenal fans keep saying that it did. Lee Dixon whining about it on MOTD2, possibly? I've said this repeatedly to people writing you off, but they don't listen. Half of them seem to be Arsenal fans. Fair enough. I still maintain that European football might become a big factor. Liverpool don't have any, we seem to be resting everyone in our first XI and then some and I don't think that you can risk resting van Persie all of the time. Time will tell.
You've certainly improved as the season has progressed - as have we. However, for me, your defence is still way too shaky to be able to mount any kind of serious title challenge.
Wright-Philips tries desperately to get away. He doesn't even appeal for a foul, but tries to get up and take on Cech. Neither was a stonewall penalty though, was it? If they were given against you, you'd be very annoyed and rightly so. No more than in the average game, for me. Quite a game changer, though. Down to 10 men at 2-2 with 40 minutes left and with the fragility of your current defence, you'd be hard pushed to say that Arsenal were likely to go on and win from there. I'm sorry but both of those statements are clearly untrue. It didn't clearly hit his arm and he didn't run into the crowd. One fan gets a hand on him, just about, before he's pulled away. He didn't pile in and a second booking would've been ludicrously harsh. Really? Remember what your board was like until the last few games? We haven't reached the business end of it yet and the one side that you really had to win against (Udinese) saw you lose to Liverpool at home and then get mauled by Man Utd after each tie. You also lost to Blackburn after the Dortmund game and us after the Olympiakos one. I agree with you about Liverpool, but they don't have the hindrance of European football. They can approach each game with an entire week of training dedicated to it, for the most part. If there's a weakness in the opposition, then they'll have multiple training sessions to work on getting at it. If they have one themselves, then they'll be able to focus on ironing it out. It's quite an advantage. The January window could be key.
Even if we don't play him, we could sell him for £20m in the summer anyway. Worth getting for the potential gain alone.
What I have always thought was that the fight for a top 4 place would be between us, and possibly Liverpool. I'd stick by that view, unless you lot do your usual late season collapse.
Saying that NSIS, Liverpool drew at home to Swansea, (to add to drawing at home to Norwich. Hardly top 4 form at the moment.
