Like I said, I've never seen people take alcohol into football grounds. Even if bought in the ground you were stopped by stewards if you tried to take it back to your seat. I've even seen own personal soft drinks removed from people, who didn't buy it in the ground. Also everytime I went on a football coach, we were reminded no alcohol was allowed, as it also gets the coach company in trouble, I've even seen stewards come on coaches once we arrive to check onboard that everything is within their liking. Oh and not forgetting the ban on smoking.

Forgot to add, Ive seen women have aerosols removed from their handbags, when checked by stewards.

Was talking about coaches in my reply. But yeah, never seen anyone with a bag get beer into the ground.

law is that you can’t see the pitch/watch football in a stadium in U.K. while drinking. In UEFA Cup and I believe CL games in U.K. the grounds are dry, been a while since Everton were last in, but that was the case back then.

Some coach companies are a little slack, they like the revenue the beer gives. But do become ‘dry’ before the come into area/police control from my experience.

Went on an unofficial coach last season to Barnsley and people were smoking weed and doing gear. Never going on an official coach if I can avoid it.

Yeah I agree that someone will always try and get around the rules, which won't just affect the persons involved but also the coach company IF caught. But as a general norm, my point was though the UK have banned alcohol and smoking for a long while now, so I'm struggling to see the media problem over Qatar.

Well yeah don’t do gear in Qatar. Not being able to buy an overpriced Budweiser when you’ve taken the money off Budweiser already is a bit much.

I'm sure the Arabs don't mind taking several millions of the Americans to promote beer they can't sell, quite amusing.

think it’s the eve of tournament backtrack on what they offered. If they state you can drink in the ground, then at the latest minute change their stance, looks likely this was alway going to be the case.
Be interesting to see the Qatar officials view on Englands Captain armband and other nations ‘protests’

corrupt fifa problems, blatter and co need locking up

FIFA is corrupt but what's new?

If I went to a country like Qatar, I would not be expecting to be allowed to drink alcohol in public. To believe they were actually going to change their customs for us is a bit naive, but maybe they told a few fibs to keep things sweet until the last minute. Can't say I blame them, that's what happens when you have corrupt officials running the game, expect to get stitched up.

And therein lies the real problem. Corporate sponsorship feeds off the greed which has been destroying the game for decades. Playing a WC Finals in a country owned by billionaire oligarchs with a 13th century mindset, is the inevitable consequence of football having sold it’s soul to the devil long ago.

Someone should tell the Everton fans I know about that.

They're ****ing wasted most the time, even on the coaches.

But my point was, yes, it's illegal... But people don't give a ****. I know 100% fans who get tanked on the coaches.

They’re running the risk of not being allowed in the ground though. Or being flogged in the town square. Same thing really. Sort of.

99% of away fans are. It’s the small 20-30 seat coaches that have more selection of what floats your boat. But after watching us away for 2-3 seasons in the 90’s. I can understand the need for certain things.

totally agree with this. The one part where it was a bit sneaky as the all fans have bought tickets and accommodation and then they bring the rule in lol

I was listening to the radio this morning and they were reading a list of some of the most well known businesses in London.. all owned or part owned by Qatari state-owned companies. Harrods, Claridge's, Canary Wharf. And then of course a substantial amount of the real estate owned by Russian oligarchs and Mafiosi. It's no surprise that football, which is just another business would be seen as, and treated, the same. We have Man City and PSG which no one really complains about, so buying off FIFA isn't going to be any different.
