Hot off the press: Crystal Palace Park - 1 July 2023 Iggy Pop Blondie Generation Sex (Idol, James, Cook & Jones) Tickets go on sale on Friday. Oh well, that solves what I'll ask for as a birthday present next year...and probably the year after...maybe the year after that. It is probably as close as we're going to get to a Gen X reunion gig.
A mate who's a huuuge Killing Joke fan saw the recent gigs and said exactly that (and will be going to see Iggy Pop at Crystal Palace Park) but I have heard from someone else who saw the tour with KJ and Toyah that his voice sounded shot and they regretted going. I actually heard one person slagging The Damned reunion after the first gig - which proves that you can't please all of the people, all of the time. I'm going for it, no matter what. It's likely to be a very rare chance to see 2 of the acts and gives Mrs B a chance to wear the rare (in the UK) Blondie/Damned US tour t shirt that I've bought her for Christmas...although I can do without the ear bashing that is inevitable during Rapture (which she hates with some passion!) Plus, it's a return to our old stomping ground.
Fab 5 Freddy told me everyone is fly ... except you (and your ilk) . If it wasn't for Rapture, the Radio 1 audience would never had heard "The adventures of ..." until years after the fact.

Tour dates released for the 'punk super group' of wing men....err,....Wingmen please log in to view this image I haven't been to the islington Academy for a while now...or I have and have just forgotten. You choose, I can't remember.
We have secured pre-sale tickets for Iggy Pop/Blondie/Generation Sex. Pricing is surprisingly reasonable (in a 2022/23 fashion) @ £71.50 per ticket. Of course, there's the booking fees on top @ £13 for the two of us... Happy Birthday to me! Addendum: the price was £71.50 inclusive of £6.50 booking fee. These days, £65 for that line-up is a bit of a bargain.
I spied a t shirt on ebay for the 1998 Holidays In The Sun festival - the forerunner to Rebellion. My mate's band 53rd 'n' 3rd played and on the back of the shirt, they are listed alongside SLF, The Dickies, Vice Squad, 999...etc., etc. I sent him a copy of the image of the back of the shirt, to see if he wanted it. He rings me and says..."Fantastic weekend. Max Splodge kept trying to beat me up for being ginger!"
For #The Changing Man and others of the mod persuasion, a Nationwide piece (unfortunately not Sue Lawley)... ...and I'm still not having scooters...give me an FS1E, pedals and all...
Henry Cole on the bike show is a "bit" irritating but it's all we have , the Z1000 resto will suit me and the 350cc resto on the race bike with Sam Lovegrove would be nice
My old man had a Z1000 back in the 80's. It was probably the bike he kept the longest, until it was eventually replaced by a Honda Blackbird...which was full on mental and should have been called 'The Widowmaker'. I kept telling him to buy one of these... please log in to view this image Apparently, it nearly happened...except my mum went spare and demanded a foreign holiday, which we duly took in Majorca...which would now be worth about £10k. The MV...? It's really ****ing rare and starts @ £200k. Mothers!
I have never got scooters either, it's the one part of 'mod' that has really passed me by. Then again I have never ridden any sort of powered bike and I am not great on a push bike so it's been 4 wheels all the way for me!
I've ridden a scooter. One of my brothers 'acquired' one when we were teenagers. I found it heavy and the small wheels and my height made it a bit unsteady, plus I'm no great fan of 2 strokes...with the odd exception, such as RD Yamahas and KH Kawasakis but they are ****ING NOISY! Mostly cars don't excite me...in that, I can't afford anything that would do so, whereas I can with bikes. Plus, you can't beat the freedom of riding a bike. Next summer, the MV will be ready to ride, which is very exciting. The Moto Guzzi may have to be broken for spares...
As a kid, I was always tearing around on a bike. I really wanted one of these... please log in to view this image ...a Schwinn Stingray. There were a lot of foreign Air Force families living in Wembley back then and all the yank kids had one. I never got a sniff of a Rayleigh Chopper, let alone one of those beauties! Still, I loved my bike and learned to ride 'no hands' on the road, including making right hand turns. It's a wonder I didn't kill myself.
I am not ' excited' by cars they are a functional method of getting from a to b as anyone who has seen the workaday wheels that I have driven over the years would testify. My younger brother had a succession of hot hatches in the 90s that all had his huge speakers installed and straight through exhaust so that it could be heard over the music. I drove most of them at one time or another, but mainly because he was usually last in and when I was going off to football on A sunday morning his car would be at the back, and i was normally back home before he surfaced for his sunday roast breakfast! He is still a car nut now who takes his 90s BMW to shows most weekends and also owns a track car. He is also another Spurs fan so he is not all bad.
My brother, who used to race sidecars, never buys cars that attract attention...and proceeds to drive them like he's being chased by the devil. I recall the pair of us driving back from the south coast one night in a very standard Talbot Horizon, which scared the living **** out of me. I didn't get in another car with him for years! Personally, I've always tried to drive as legally as possible. If you don't respect yourself, the least you can do is respect others.
