Haydock 12.10 Snake Roll Lucinda Russell Looks to have a very talented novice here. Was 4/1 Friday morning - not sure now as the betting sites are blocked at work.
Anyone going to be brave / foolhardy (delete as appropriate) enough to bet against the superstars of our game Constitution Hill (current odds 2/7, Ascot) and A Plus Tard (4/7, 3.00 Haydock Park) tomorrow?!? 0/10 for originality but I can't see much beyond an easy victory for both. The Ascot Hurdle has in recent times almost always gone to script - in the past 11 renewals the biggest winning SP has been 3/1. There is, however, a modicum of hope for 'value seekers' at Haydock in the fact that A Plus Tard has been beaten at short prices a number of times in the past (1/2, 8/11, 9/10, 5/4, 5/4).
6 Graded races in the UK and Ireland over the weekend - all with single figure fields (7 the highest number of runners). 5 apiece for the two grade 1s. State Man the talking horse in the Morgiana.
I see that there is not a drop of rain forecast for Royal Berkshire between now and 'tapes up'. Maybe, Lieutenant Henderson will walk the course tomorrow morn (a constitutional re Constitution...ho ho ho!!!) before retreating to the 'Owners and Trainers Bar' to make a final decision.
This will be 18th renewal of the Betfair Chase and it has never achieved a double digit field. It has though attracted the current holder of the Cheltenham Gold Cup so I guess it gets some kudos for that. Was very surprised, incidentally, to see this is the first year that the Betfair Chase has done this since 2010 (Imperial Commander).
It’s a shame that Million Bonus was canned - I think only Kauto Star ever won it over fences, and no horse over hurdles?
To be fair Oddy, not one horse is ever going to complete in all three of those races let alone win all three now are they...??
I guess not but it might have made more try for it? At least it might see more entries for the Betfair Chase and the Fighting Fifth
Good looking race. I only realised Sizing Pottsie changed yards after looking at the race. He's no superstar but he is a relentless horse to gallop when the ground gets soft, track looks right up his street too. He is a good yard stick to measure the others off. He could take some pegging back.
1500 Haydock - Eldorado Allen Could be a turnup here. At the price worth a sporting punt. Like most of the others, a high-class Chaser. Brendan Powell rides for the Joe Tizzard yard. 20/1 best price at time of writing. Rev. Forecast with Protektorat
The first 6 races at Ascot on good to soft ground (surely near ideal) and they attract 31 runners: pathetic. Maybe it's woke racing where everyone (well nearly) gets to go home with a prize.
The best (and richest) race on the Ascot Card is a handicap with the Arkle winner running. Surely there‘s a message there? More please - and fewer uncompetitive group races.
3 NH meetings, 21 races and just over 150 runners. Meanwhile at Lingers Park just shy of 100 runners on it’s 9 race AW card. NH racing in Britain appears to be dying on it’s arse. Should make finding winners a bit easier though……or may be not!
