Going to come into a lot of abuse here. Both Baxter and Ingram are great stoppers but both lack the ability to organise the defence at set pieces. Although not a fan and only using them as an example Man U were a different team with Smiecal and Van de Saar in goal. I hope the new back room appointment is a goal keeping coach who can show being in goal is not about only saving shots but organising the defence and giving confidence

No abuse. Agree with the good point made, although:
    - I wouldn't say they are both "great stoppers". They are decent, not great.
    - I don't think we need or should hope that the new appointment be a goal keeping coach, we already have one who should (and maybe is) working on the point being made.

Both keepers are mid table championship keepers, both have their strengths and weaknesses but come out as pretty much equal over all. I'm a little surprised in how Baxter has struggled to take on the new way of playing, seen as that's exactly the same as how they are taught to play at Chelsea from a young age ( but that probably answers why they are allowing him to leave ). The fact Baxter is on loan and Ingram is ours, I would be playing Ingram ( plus I think he was unfairly dropped earlier in the season when he was keeping us in games and winning us points ).

As I've said on the recent match threads, the keepers aren't the issue or reason we are where we are in the league. In fact if it wasn't for Ingram's form earlier in the season we would probably be 4/5 points worse off

On another thread we are lacking a strong personality on the pitch to be a captain. Our current club captain is only on the bench and anyone here thinks he should be starting let alone on the bench? Greaves has too much inexperience and no track record For respect from the rest of the team. Hopefully rosy can move o or release the players underperforming not up to it and those thinking a last pay off.

Both have been playing in front of a disorganised shambles of a rearguard this season.

None are bad players, some are solid signings and others have a lot of potential.

Let's allow a bit of stability, understanding and confidence develop under a settled and communicative backroom staff before making too many definitive judgements eh?

From what I’ve seen of Baxter this year I wouldn’t say he’s a good shot stopper. Reminds me of old lead boots Marshall

Yeah, but he wasn’t bad either. Marshall has maintained a career playing at a decent level since pretty much his early days. Baxter will do the same.

If Baxter and Ingram are considered equal, then surely Baxter is worth buying because he is four years younger than Ingram and has more progress to make.

It will all depend on of we ( the club ) think Baxter will improve and also how much Chelsea want for him... Wasn't it £7m at one point?

We were a different team when we had keepers like Norman, Myhill and McGregor, our current two are below our usual standard of keeper.

Gone are the days when you could hear a keeper shouting at his defence.

Schmeichel used to go ballistic at his defence in his days at Man U. Ours seem very quiet.

As far as I know, there's a clause which gives us an option to buy for a six figure fee. He's out of contract at the end of the season anyway, so I guess it'll depend on whether we think the keepers we have will be in the first team or not.

Ingram only signed a new deal in the summer, so he's not going anywhere. Cartwright hasn't done much at Peterborough due to injury so hopefully he bounces back as he's highly thought of. Robson seems to be doing alright but is out of contract. Lo-Tutala is already training with the first team and could feature further down the line if he keeps progressing. Signing Baxter for me makes total sense, by the end of the season he'll already have been here two years, he'll know his fellow keepers and the staff and he's not going to cost the Earth to sign.

Sitting in the South stand I watch all 3 keepers warm up and there's not much between them (Baxter, Ingram & Lo-Tutala) as shot stoppers but Lo-Tutala is a better finisher than the other two & Barry Richardson (the keeping coach) is **** hot at shooting against the woodwork.
