as with the second Cardiff goal, Greaves lost his man at the far post for their winner and arguably for their first as well
We started off ok, and I thought they looked better organised and more confident for the first 20 minutes. Went a bit flat and then the refs appalling performance plus Readings time wasting seemed to keep knocking City back and they didn’t recover. Hendricks tackle looked like a potential ankle breaker to me (two footed when he left the ground) and a clear red. There was a foul in the run up to their second goal to that the ref should have spotted. We’ve had him before and he was crap then too. As for the acts of Remembrance - if I was Hull British Legion I’d decline future invites on the grounds of the total lack of dignity of the event. It was exceptionally poor to have the ref blow the whistle and have everyone on the pitch ignore Reveille and the Kohima prayer. Bad show.
I hate blaming refs but it seems that every single week they seem to be against us. I don't know what it is, why we're so disliked, but it's so frustrating
This one was demonstrably bad - not paying enough attention to the point that he interfered with the ball and had to stop play to bring it back.
On the Remembrance ceremony, perhaps it was too much to expect people to read or listen to announcements re what was going to happen. It was very disappointing but perhaps Last Post and a minute's silence will have to do in future
Heads out the sand people, we’re terrible. No if’s but’s or maybe’s. Really poor. Someone try convince me otherwise.
There seemed to be confusion as to what was happening. The minute’s silence was considerably longer than a minute, the trumpeter seemed to be making as to blow several times and didn’t, so I think the ref finally thought something had to be done so blew the whistle. These things need to made as simple as possible so that everyone can pay their respects. Something sandwiched by referee whistles works - something over-complicated doesn’t.
Club couldn't make it any simpler. Its a minute's SILENCE and NOT a minutes applause. If it seemed the minute went on too long, that's because the ref started his timing after the numpties had stopped clapping
City did manage a few excellent moves into attack but were painfully slow out of defence a lot of the time. The "we'll tire them out theory" doesn't work when the opposition just fall back and watch. I'm sure they'd have to work harder if they had to chase our players as they attacked with pace. Oh, and yes it would be nice to see some competent officials for a change - this is the second home game on the trot where referees assistants have waited for the equally useless referee to decide on throw ins.
Would be better not to have the ref blow his whistle at all - people hear it and automatically start cheering, it’s Pavlovs Dog. Just hand over the ceremony to the British Legion and let them run it, they’ve had enough practice over the years. It’s a bit shambolic every year but today was the worst I can remember in a long time. The club didn’t even do what they said pre match (teams being a guard of honour for the BL) so I agree with the previous poster. Just have Last Post and a minute silence. We could just about manage that.
You could argue a few of the pivotal moments (hendrick challenge, slater not putting us 2-0 up etc) change the whole game and you'd be right. The fact is really we went 1-0 with a possession style of play and we just fell flat. Other than Pelkas there was no real spark in the final third to unlock them again and the minute the settled for the smash and grab we were done for without and Oscar/Tetteh type up top to ask them questions aerially. Can't fault Longman too much he huffed and puffed and at times stretched them when they had a higher line but the final product just wasn't there. He's a square peg in a round hole as he was often drifting out wide meaning slater filled the CF space against a physical defence. One thing I did like was Doch and Seri in midfield when woods went off. Felt like Doc's energy was creating some space. Feel like with Seri/Woods we just have two of the same and nobody to carry the ball. Still think we have just enough if we stay healthy and start picking up some points at home but think we are making it harder on ourselves than needs be
