They may be corrupt but they're not stupid, they'd have just heated different numbers!

Unfortunately Heidi, much as I would love a cup run as much as anyone else, it all changed once the likes of City and Chelsea could field 2, if not 3 different teams that would beat our first team, such is the chasm of difference between the finance of the "elite" and that of the rest. Just take a look at the list of FA and League Cup winners (and indeed finalists) over the last 10+ years against, say, the 70's. They are not comparable.

Having to prioritise the league over cups is an evil necessity I guess. After waiting 16 long years to get back into the top league I grudgingly accept it. We either need to develop over time and compete like (just examples) Brighton now or Leicester over the last few years and the chance to win a cup may be more realistic. A super rich owner could throw money at it, the one drawback is, nobody to my knowledge with anything like enough cash is sniffing around LS11 wanting to throw large amounts of money at a hobby.

Lastly, and I know this will upset a few but, if Revie had rung the changes a bit more often, we would have likely won far more than we did because other teams did and picked off trophies while we nearly won everything year after year :emoticon-0148-yes:

All true Marcos but I don't think it Revies day you were allowed field a weakened side. Didn't you need proof of injury or something. Scum being allowed drop out of fa cup to play in World Cup was the beginning of the end of the cups imo

The success of the premier league killed the cups. What is it, 3 million for winning the fa cup, less for the league cup v 100+ million for being in the prem. owners will only make one choice.

The winners of the League Cup should play the FA Cup winners for a Champions League place and it's within the FA's powers to do so. They won't of course because they don't want to upset the Premier League and the ever growing cartel at the top of it.

Teams should be made to play at least 6 of the previous league game starting 11.

Would you say that if we were bottom of the league?. Too late now to protest about the domestic cups they have had their day. Top clubs field second strings until the later stages and still dominate. I think marsch did right with his selections. Giving some experience to our reserves will help some progress.

They've had their day because of the way the powers that be have let them be treated.
It's a debate that could just go round and round in circles though. Fans of clubs have varying opinions on it. But as you say, it's very likely too late now without some radical changes and that won't happen.

It’s all a bit contradictory. It’s clubs like ours that don’t treat the cups with respect not the big boys. Those trying to avoid relegation and those chasing promotion send out the weakest sides, the big boys second string can see these off fairly easily, as Eire points out it’s usually one of the top four teams that win the cups.

No one is going to risk premier league status for that.

For the last 10 years I think I’m right in saying Man City have won it 5 times, Chelsea twice, Liverpool twice and Man Utd. The big clubs have the squad depth to get through and then really go for it in the latter stages. Whatever we think we dont have the depth and by having a couple of injuries we see a weakened side against Wolves, simply because Marsch is scared to get a first team starter injured for the weekend. In other words it ain’t fair

Mate, they put a man on the moon in 69, surely it wasn’t beyond the wit of man to feign a calf strain?

It sure could. Considering we just have 3 matches… and they’re spurs, barcodes and city… before the third round of the fa cup.

I’d say we it’s a pretty safe bet we’ll be revisiting this one in early Jan.

We were fined for fielding a weakened team!

We prioritised staying in the Championship, then promotion, then can't be relegated etc., etc. I hear what you are saying and it's possible we would never win it anyway, but you have to try at least. Revie's team would have died for Leeds United regardless but we also had bribed referees to contend with in both Salonika and Paris (although I know that was Armfield) that impacted greatly on our achievements.
