Doing well at Burnley but, mre importantly, he has acheived loads as a pivotal players in an important role in Man City. just think that Kompany would inspire our players in a fashion that I can't help thinking Jones can't. As i said before, this has echoes of Sturrock, Grayand mayybe even Dave Jones about it. We shouldn't be a struggle team but look to be finishing mid-table at least each season. Jones does not strike me as a "modish" selection - the way Chris Wilder was seen by the Saints management team when he was in the Championship with Sheffield.
I like Kompany, but I don’t think there’s a chance he’d have left his top of the table club after less than a season there.
It's been well reported that Jones' man management skills are one of his strengths so I'm not sure why you think that other than Kompany is a bigger name.

I think we need to get past this “players need to follow a top player as a manager or they will never respect them”. It’s a load of rubbish and if that’s a player’s attitude they should sit in the reserves until they change their minds.

Cor this bickering is very depressing. I appreciate the underwhelming feeling with Jones but if the guys who have forked out zillions of £’s for us are happy with Jim, Jack or Nathan then I’m with them (until proven otherwise). In SR I trust. The King is dead, long live the King.
Of course it helps if you’ve been there and done that, but ultimately the players will respect a manager that helps them win games and improve them, above all. As has been discussed on this thread, there are many examples of some of the best managers in football history, having barely kicked a ball themselves.
Interesting stat - Jones’ team has the lowest stat of unforced errors leading to goals/chances in the league. That, we do need.
