It now beginning to feel a bit like last season with the kids. Before Neil arrived the kids were beginning to run out of steam. We definitely looked better when we brought on Pritchard, Evens and Emblerton. Although I Don,t think they have been used as much as Johnson used the kids.Hopefully the WC break will give us a reset we need.
I don’t think the 4-4-2 helped. The wingers didn’t tuck in enough for me. BA and Neil were ok for a period but we lacked an out ball as the wingers were too wide and Simms was static. Unfortunately with Ballard, Allese and Gooch out we lack the options for 5 at the back but we could’ve gone five in midfield and had Evans at the base.
Hope you are right and its just one game. I just thought we could have taken a good thumping yesterday ( fortunately their finishing was poor) and reminded me of earlier times last season under Johnson.
Puzzling that our worst two performances have been against the poorest teams we have faced this season, we are constantly starting slowly, whatever the formation. Yesterday the plan, fine on paper as someone said, but it backfired, and TM is not as quick on the draw as AN, he wasted a good 20 minutes of the game to make changes , we should have re-organised on the 30 minute mark imo., but its an easy thing to say with hindsight.
thing is, if evans and pritchard end up with injuries at the same time we saw how the team would be without them and it is scary. i always thought we needed more experienced players, at least another who can sit central and dictate things...for all the younger lads have done ok they do not yet have that discipline of when to sit and when to go, being able to read the game is vital in the middle you can see it with the older players as they know when to move as a unit and when to sit back and help defenders out.
