Toshack did'nt wear the Liverpool jersey for Swansea matches before or after that day,one of the best loved managers in football was being remembered that day and Toshack was one of his players, and Shanks was his friend and mentor. Cant see why anybody would begrudge him one minute at his former club to show his sympathy and respect to Bill.
You could only interpret Tosh's actions as being disrespectful if you are mean spirited and small minded. If that's the way some Swansea fans are then so be it. It merely confirms the opinions that others have of the town and the football club!
No one's begruding him showing respect to Shanks, I'm simply saying some Swansea fans probably felt there were other ways for him to show his respect to Shanks without disrespecting Swansea football club and its fans. I don't agree with it but I can see where he's coming from. Not really, his actions are up for interpretation, some, including the people who were part of the Liverpool board at the time, interpreted it as a show of where his loyalties lie, and a show of where he actually wanted to be. So it was not surprising that Swansea interpreted it the same as they did. Football fans are sensitive at the best of times, so Swansea fans getting angry over something like this isn't surprising. I hope you aren't calling the people on our board at the time mean spirited and small minded, eh? Seeing as they were one of the main reasons behind our success in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
John Toshack Liverpool Legend.
I truly don't understand what you mean by that question. The vast majority of the Liverpool crowd that day recognised Tosh''s action for what it was - a sign of respect. Hence the reaction by chanting his name. I applied the term 'mean spirited and small minded' to the Swamsea fans who booed. In exactly the same way, I would apply it to the Juve fans who turned their backs on our public apology.
if we start like we did against Norwich and finish like we did against Wolves it could well be 6-0.6-1, likewise play like we did v man city for the first hour, v stoke etc be a close one, gone 2-1 pool but hoping for 0-1
I must admit it was a bit odd, and I remember feeling uncomfortable with it (Toshacks Red Top), though I missed most of the noise given out from the Swans away end, during the minutes silence, if that's what it was all about, there should have been no disrespect for Shankly, I don't like those sort of things happening, but some fans have no sense of occasion. I can see where Dai is coming from, and to be honest I can't remember much about the fuss over him wearing a Liverpool Jersey, I'll have to ask my brother in law, what he remembers, though in fairness to Dai he seems to have got a good memory on this issue. And now for something completely different, Liverpool did have their uses in those days, you gave us some good players on loan!!....................... please log in to view this image

Juve fans were well within their rights to turn away from the pitch, just like Liverpool fans would if Margaret Thatcher or David Duckenfield came on the pitch at Anfield and apologised for the Hillsborough disaster. 20 years to wait for an apology was just too long for some of them, same as 20 years would be too much for Liverpool fans. And my question was because according to Souness "the people who mattered at Liverpool" had taken Toshack's shirt gesture as if he was touting himself for the Liverpool job. And you'd said anyone who interpreted his actions as disrespectful were mean spirited and small minded, I ask you if you still stand by that, and do you believe the people Souness was referring to were also mean spirited and small minded?
In response to your answer. Then YES I do call anybody who deliberately misinterprited Tosh's actions on that day mean spirited and small minded. As for Juve, then when did we as a Liverpool crowd at Anfield have the opportunity to apologise before we did? Duckenfield and Thatcher did have that opportunity
All this talk of Shankly/Toshack/Liverpool shirt is 30 years old and everyone has their own opinion. in my opinion it was a respectful, sentimental gesture towards a man who was a father figure to Tosh. Let no-one forget that prior to his death Shankly was in the Swans dressing room for every away game in the north west and gave stirring speeches to encourage the Swans. Great man, great gesture. End of.
Are Liverpool the ones who play at goodison or the ones who play at anfield? I always get them mixed up.
I think we might stand a very good chance against that team, those yellow blokes don`t look too mobile.
