Starmer is useless as an opposition leader.

We have an economic crisis in the Uk due to Brexit and life restrictions over the last couple of years. The war has only exacerbated it. The 'mini-budget' impacted the markets for days, then it calmed it down with next to no impacts.

His party voted for a vote on Brexit
He voted through the WA without proposing an alternative
He also voted for all the restrictions without asking/challenging the Govt/public bodies about any impact assessments.
He could have made himself effective and credible.
He chose to be a facilitator of the Govt policies.
The windfall tax and the revenue from it is negligible (single billions) compared to the hundreds of billions racked up in debt from the last couple of years.

Maybe he can be a decent PM, but as the opposition - him and his party have been useless. Cold, hard facts.

A lad joined the foreign legion and after a few weeks he was desperate for a shag so his mate says there’s a ostrich down by the oasis with its head-in the sand, sneak up behind it and you can slip one in. About a hour later he came back with his uniform tore to shreds, his mate said what happened and he said when I slipped it in it bolted, I managed to keep up with it for the first 50 yards but then I got out of step.

I think a lot of what you say rings true to me. However, I did appreciate his approach during the pandemic. He could have played all kinds of party politics, and probably slowed things down. I thought he grasped the nettle well at that point to be fair in being a supportive opposition. Again, just an opinion.

It is all about opinions FellTop but I don’t agree with opinions presented as facts, that’s why I fell into the trap of responding.

I don’t think for one second that we could renegotiate Dublin 3. For something that was free when we were members of the EU, the cost would now be prohibitive and the EU could set quotas which would be of no benefit to us.

The Sandhurst agreement is a different matter, it was an agreement in place to replace the agreement we had as members of the EU to, among other things, have our Border Force in France to process migrants before they reached the UK. We refused to pay the French after an argument about pushing small boats back and France withdrew from the agreement in response.

I appreciate how difficult it is to prevent the small boats, but surely common sense should prevail, we should reinstate the cooperation with Interpol and hunt down and prosecute the people who profit from trafficking migrants. We should also have an application system that can be accessed at the beginning of a displaced persons journey not the end. At the very least we could then class anyone not making their application through that system as illegal.

Both major parties rattle on about the immigration points system, but as good as a points system is, it will make no difference whatsoever to a refugee displaced from their home country or an illegal economic migrant.

Thanks mate. That is a great explanation. I too find it hard to understand why this cant be a challenge for governments across the world to tackle. There is clearly a humanitarian issue and solutions need to be shared. The illegal trafficking requires shared and concerted efforts. It is an issue for the all governments, not just individual ones.

I may have mentioned that recently I have been watching the modern Western Sheriff Longmire series. I mention this, cos he as Law Enforcement, he would have worked to get the intel as who was responsible, including the 'big chief' then beat the crap out of them, shot them or locked them up.

It is not feasible that between all the different police forces involved that a task force has been set up (or has it?) to nail the gangs...and have not succeeded yet.

I am sure I read that we were working in partnership with Interpol but for some reason that has stopped now.
Unfortunately I can't remember where or when I read it.

You could start by getting a medical licence and help make up for the 15% shortfall in NHS staff that a lack of immigrants would cause.

I see your point , but do these illegals / refugees/ migrants have medical qualifications? Have they come to be doctors and nurses?

The person I quoted included legal immigrants. So yes, 15% of the NHS is made up of those people.

There's only one possible solution which is cooperation with Europe, dialogue and common sense ....

    ... so we're screwed.

At this point we might as well start our own dinghy service and undercut the traffickers.

The big worry is, the nutcase who bombed the centre. If he’s thinking like that I am sure there will be others thinking a lot worse.
