Good Morning. It's Tuesday 1st November, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Are the team carrying Bamford

It's been eleven months Since Patrick Bamford last netted for Leeds. The once prolific goalscorer had just come off the bench following injury (against Brentford), and grabbed a last gasp equaliser, sending 36,000 jubilant Leeds fans into rapturous euphoria. Little did we know at the time, that his goal celebration would put him back out of action, and this would be the last time we would see him score.

The 29yo has 99 career goals to his name (44 for Leeds). The hope is, that once he breaks his curse, the floodgates will open, but how likely is it? In the meantime, we see a shadow of the player, struggling for both form, and fitness, and with his confidence low, we've seen him miss guilt edged opportunities (including a penalty). How much longer has Paddy got; is his time running out?

Adams catching the eye of Europe's Elite

When Tyler Adams was branded surplus to requirements at RB Leipzig, Jesse Marsch knew he had to have him at Elland Road. The 23yo had fallen out of favour with then Manager Domenico Tedesco, who was fired two months to the day Adams signed his five-year deal at Elland Road.

The biggest obstacle Leeds had, was their turbulent relationship they had with their German counterparts. For over two years, the two clubs have been locked in a bitter feud regarding the £18m transfer for the services of Jean-Kevin Augustin.

Fortunately (and miraculously) for the Whites, Victor Orta had maintained good relationships with them, and soon persuaded them to part with the USA International. Fast-forward the clock four months, and Adams is quickly becoming a household name, not only at Elland Road, but across Europe.

On the pitch, only Fulham’s Joao Palhinha has made more tackles (53) than Adams (44) in the entire Football League this term. Nobody has tackled more players dribbling (24) than Adams. Adams’s combined tackles and interceptions tally (57) is only bettered by three players in the top flight.

These impressive stats, and consistent performances have caught the eye of some of Europe's elite (and Manchester Utd). Should he carry his rich vein of form to the World Cup, his value could soar, but protected by a five-year contract, Leeds hold all the trump cards.

McKennie could become available in January

Football transfer guru Dean Jones has reported that Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie could become available during the January transfer window. The combative midfielder 24, would certainly add some bit to the Leeds midfield, alongside fellow USA International midfielders Brendan Arronson and Tyler Adams.

“Spurs have looked at him before. Chelsea and Leeds are both aware of the fact he could become available,”
“So, I think it’s a case of wait and see. Obviously, with the World Cup to come too, we will have to see what his condition and his state of mind is off the back of that.”

Summerville wanted the No 7 shirt

When the squad numbers were released towards the end of pre-season, most were surprised to see Crysencio Summerville given the number 10 shirt. It had recently been vacated by Raphinha, who had recently departed for the Camp Nou. These were big boots to fill, especially for a developmental player, without a ingle league start to his name.

Initially Cry had his eyes on No 7, but Arronson's arrival soon put pay to that, but No 10 was available, and Summerville grabbed it with both hands. Making the step up from the Developmental squad isn't as easy as it sounds, as Gelhardt would tell you, and when an opportunity comes along (on or off the pitch), you have to make it count, as the 21yo has shown in recent games.

According to Phil Hay "Every pre-season in every dressing room, footballers barter over squad numbers. Most prefer to stick with their existing shirts. Some would like to swap. Certain players consider their number a brand, others could not care less."

"It was no different at Leeds United last summer and the focus of attention when the club issued their squad list was Crysencio Summerville landing No 10 — a 20-year-old development squad winger without a league start in England taking one of the game’s most prestigious slots."

"Ten was vacant because in early July, Leeds had sold its previous holder Raphinha: star asset, Brazil international, made for it in almost every way. Summerville was on the fringes of the first team at Elland Road and at a very different stage of his career."

"He wore 38 in the 2021-22 season and before this term began, he had eyes on number seven. It was nominally Ian Poveda’s shirt but Poveda was about to leave Leeds on loan. But before long, Brenden Aaronson arrived from Red Bull Salzburg, laid claim to seven himself and left 10 as the only traditional starting number up for grabs. It was waiting for someone to take it, so Summerville did."

    Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

Paddy Bamford hasnt done anything for this club since he was called up for England. Yes his goals in 20/21 were welcome and they got us up to 9th place in the prem. He deserved his call-up and we were all pleased for him. However he took a knock and ever since has been useless as a striker, he has missed most of last season and only scored twice, he is nowhere near being fully fit and has scored no goals. Yes he is a passenger and the annoying thing for me is he was given a new contract with a big pay rise on the back of his work in the 20/21 season and has not repayed that loyalty. Marsch is desperate to get Paddy playing but he should grow a pair and make paddy get match fit and confident in the reserves, until he proves he can add to the squad. Harsh I know but….

Morning all. Upcoming game at weekend will prove as important as the Liverpool game in so many ways. A win and we can start feeling like were turning a corner and Jesse can breath a sign of relief. Like so many have said, I hope he works out for us in so many ways. USA USA

On the Tyler Adams thing his value has at least doubled since Orta bought him and in fairness that will be the same for Roca and Aaronson. However the best bit was the mention of Domineco Tedasco and Adams at war. Tedasco is a name mentioned with replacing Marsch because he replaced Marsch at Leipzig?

Morning all how Bamford gets in the matchday squad baffles me. A coach has to be ruthless and select in form. 99 goals at his age is way too low a tally. Promote gelhardt to first sub if playing one up front (rodrigo). I think Marsch will persist with Bamford and it will be his achillees heel.Leeds do not have the points and league position to continue to pick him.
Adams i saw pre season at home and you could see he was better than what we had. Leeds need to sell those who are not making it ie greenwood.
When we have to pay for Augustin that's our money gone. Harrison would jump at the chance to sign for Newcastle. The prospect of euro competition coupled with a huge wage increase would see him running for the exit.

A little harsh there Doc imo, I'm pretty certain he didn't want to get injured and for it to be a bit of a nightmare one for him. I don't think you can question his commitment, abilities yes but they are separate things.

    Morning all,

For me Bamford is streaky. Too many barren patches punctuated by goal steaks.

I like him though and what he offers to the team. If during the barren patches he was lazy, didn't offer much and basically made the team worse then he would be dropped and rightly so.

But he mostly makes the team look better, he works hard and leads from the front.

I just wish he would get the first goal of the next streak. No one talks enough about the goal in the arsenal game that was disallowed.

The way he scored it was excellent and against a team outside the top 6 it would have stood. That confidence boost would mean he probably scores the penalty and off he goes.

I still think Bamford has a lot to offer this side but I'm not against looking at other options in January

Sums Bamford up perfectly. He's a massive confidence player. It's his weakness as he let's things get to him too much.

The top class strikers miss an open goal and 10 seconds later its forgotten about and they are on to the next chance. Bamford will still be thinking about his missed chance vs Palace weeks ago.

    Dear Leon,

Leeds United installed 200 rail seats at the back of the North Stand inside Elland Road as part of a trial back in March 2022.

Following advice from the Sports Ground Safety Authority, the club are now looking to install a further 2000 rail seats into the North Stand Upper in time for our forthcoming home fixture versus AFC Bournemouth on Saturday 5th November 2022.

We are writing to you because your seat is one that has been selected to be changed to a rail seat.

Whilst maintaining the need for seating throughout games, the rails will allow fans to stand comfortably during “key moments” such as goals. This trial is designed to offer a safer experience for supporters.

The aim of the club is to monitor the experience of our supporters in these seats over coming matches, whilst engaging and receiving feedback, with a view to this becoming a permanent addition to our supporter experience at Elland Road.

Supporters are assured that the rails will not impact your line of vision, nor will it in any way restrict access to your seat. The design is to enable fans to stand safely at key moments in the game, then revert to using your seat at other times. All ticket holders are reminded that Elland Road is an all-seater stadium and supporters must only use their allocated seat keeping all aisles clear.

Leeds United join a number of fellow Premier League clubs who are already trialling this new safety method and we look forward to feedback that supporters may have.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Ticket Office on 0371 334 1992. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming you back to Elland Road on Saturday 5th November.

    Yours sincerely,
    Leeds United

Happy with that news. Back to the good old days :emoticon-0100-smile

Bamford - a quality player who is integral to the way Leeds play ... his ability to bring his midfield into the game higher up the pitch is unquestionable, and he can score a goal ... his injuries have stymied him badly, but he'll get back to where he was once he's fully match fit ... he's a player who gives his all for the team, and he's getting game time because it's his pathway to reaching peak fitness ... no need to let him play a bunch of U21s games where he could run into a reckless kid who thinks it would be great to kick Bamford to pieces ... form is temporary, class is permanent ... if he's made 15 starts in a row and hasn't scored, then you can say the team's carrying him ... right now it's a nonsense theory dreamt up by the Bamford haters on social media, best to give it a swerve

Adams - this kid is really growing into his role in the Leeds team, and he's visibly improving game by game ... he and Roca ran the midfield against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, and don't let the stats fool you, Leeds were very much the better team ... unless someone put down at least £50m for him, they can look all they want, he ain't going nowhere

McKennie - what a talent, he's improved tremendously over the last two seasons ... he will have a high price tag, and if he's available he'll go to a Champions League club on wages Leeds have no chance of matching ... not sure why Juve would want to sell him now though, maybe in another three years

10 is Just a Number - or is it? At clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG etc. they truly value the 10 shirt, and it's reserved for the most talented player in the squad ... the 10 shirt became a real focal point after Pele's exploits for Brazil at the 1970 World Cup, still one of the finest tournaments of all time ... I'm not so sure the 10 shirt carries the same weight at Leeds though, considering Pablo never bothered to wear it even though he was our best player since, well, Kewell wore the 10 shirt ... Creeeeeee has tons of ability and potential, and if the club feels it will boost his confidence to wear the "hallowed" number 10 shirt, then fine ... it does take a pair of solid brass ones to claim it though, specially if you're a young development squad player uet to make his first team debut ... as long as he keeps improving and producing, no problem
