It’s one way of looking at it!! I think we’ve won 2 in 9 games since and including the Norwich game.. 7 points out of a possible 27, that’s bad enough, what I’m really disappointed about is our performances and our defending ability.. Not one shot on target with all the strikers we had playing......pathetic
The frustrating thing is we know we can do it. It’s where we are at the moment I guess, inconsistent. If we could improve on that aspect we’d be in the mix, simply because everyone this season is finding consistency a problem. No shots on target is really poor though, I thought we’d got over that this season. We’re never going to get anything out of games with those kind of statistics, especially with the inability we have to keep a clean sheet.
A very inconsistent set of players- Nige ain’t on the pitch playing those players are. That same eleven started at WBA and played very well. Those same eleven played against Reading and were absolutely useless. Now Nige would have been crazy to change the side and gave them the chance-fans would have thought he was crazy to change it. The fault is with inconsistent players not doing their jobs not Nigel Pearson. He spoke and said it as it was in his interview and you have to say with a level and realistic head screwed on he was correct it what he said.
RR, absolute horse$hite mate, if this was LJ you and others would have been all over this site with criticism. NP is the manager, as with those before him, the buck stops with him, both the good and the bad. I was at the WBA game, we didn't actually play that well at all, but got a great result. I can live with losing,it's part and parcel of the game, but the way we have surrendered against Brum and Reading, without an attempt on target is simply not good enough, and coupled with another goal conceded from a set piece, has to be down to coaching and tactics, nothing else. I would agree that their second goal was a bad mistake from Klose, so that can definitely be deemed inconsistent, as all of our CBs have given away goals from bad mistakes this season. Take the NP blinkers off, and admit he is only doing an average job. At many other clubs in this league this season, he would have been fired by now for sure. I don't want him fired btw, at least not yet, but he has to improve, vastly!!
I said before the game, there are no excuses. NP is the manager, he picked the players, the formation, the tactics, the substitutes etc.. like I said no excuses, that was bloody awful.. Nearly 3 years in charge, looks like 3 months..
so answer this one you own a company yet your staff don’t perform for you on a regular basis-only now and again. Do you get rid of the individuals that are the problem or do you get rid of yourself for their inconsistencies.
Football isn’t like any other business, so cannot be compared. At a business, the workers wouldn’t earn more than the boss. Again, you didn’t take this view with a previous management regime….
You realise you need a chef for your corporate kitchen, so you stick one of your delivery drivers in there. You also need an accountant so you shove one of your engineers into the office to work out the books. You then blame those 2 when the canteen food is **** and the tax returns are all wrong - plus engineering capability has dropped and you’re behind schedule with your deliveries……..
I wouldn’t be such a bad manager or judge of personnel in the first place.. I would coach and assign the right skills for the right positions. If I had an expertise in a certain section of my business, I would make sure from the off, it’s sorted.. ( defence = Nigel Pearson)!! Encourage comfort in their own skin and ability.. appoint decent co coaching and leaders in the field.. so far in NP.. I don’t see any of it
Just read the following on Facebook (Bristol FC group) which sums up the situation nicely.. These are his players. His tactics. He coaches them. He works with them every day. Yes, every player has a responsibility to put a shift in every game but their failure to do so is ultimately the managers responsibility. It's his job to unlock their potential and mould a team that is able and willing to compete every game... And his responsibility to inspire every player to take the responsibility that he demands... Are they in this together or are they not? If you want inspired players to take action Nigel, then take your own responsibility to inspire them. And if you can't then change the players, change your own approach or walk away. Don't just sit there and complain about it! It's got nothing to do with budget either. We might not be able to afford a team capable of winning every game but we can afford a team that shows a willingness to compete. That's what a manager does. And when people say that Pep couldn't do any better... You're joking right?! Pep inspires players to be better and do better. The top managers in the top leagues are there for a reason. I happen to like NP but I'm sorry, he's seriously testing my patience with his apparent 'I know best, it's not my fault!' approach. Change the record, it's clearly not working Nige.
I agree with everything here. It's hard hitting but absolutely true - and as you said earlier; if it was LJ, the usual suspects would be on here banging away at their keyboards, absolutely ruthless in their predictable tirades of criticism - and to be fair they would be right to criticise - just as people are right to question NP now. Again, I do NOT want Nige sacked (just to be clear), but I do expect him to get the selection, tactics, training, formation and subs right. After that it really IS down to the players. At the moment it seems like it's ALL inconsistent - both on the pitch AND in the dugout.
You can only use what is at your disposal unfortunately it is a threadbare squad available to him. Limited players who seem to struggle to put back to back performances together that is not Nigels fault.
Spot on. As you say we are less critical due to the different circumstances, however that doesn’t give Nige a blank cheque, he still has targets to reach, both on and off the field, overall in my opinion whilst he’d done well off the pitch, on it he’s doing ok, but not outstanding. I’m sure sure he realises that as well. We have to be patient too. Look at the table, most teams are struggling with consistency. The last few years have been challenging for most clubs.
Why do City insist on defendiing corners with a zonal line inside the six yard box? It was **** last season and still is now.
It is if he has not instructed, selected or set up them correctly...You continue to look for excuses.... You say threadbare, but more or less all the players at his disposal are fit to play..Where as in the past we were plagued with injuries.....which became the downfall of many a good run!!
Because the players make their own rules, according to RR, Nige doesn't coach them, so not his fault; apparently, it's all on the players. What a leader of people.....
So now injuries are allowed as an excuse? I distinctly recall Redprintt saying that all teams get injuries, so can't be used as an excuse, under previous managerial regimes.
I actually think we have a decent squad and have proved they are capable......Down to the manager/coach to set them up and get the best out of them....
