It’s been awful man management by him this season, genuinely baffled by how bad he’s been. We’ve been getting results despite of him, not because of him. Just like England did at the WC and EUROs with Southgate. I want to buy into his project but right now I think the club should be holding back on contract talks. Not impressed one bit.
Eye bleedingly awful...even taking into account that we're almost as bad up there as we are at Arsenal.
Absolutely livid at that one. United turned up and you have to say Fred had one of those games he has where he just decides not to be **** for once. He was magnificent. And deflection for the first goal etc. But the simple fact is that we didn’t turn up and Conte took way too long to change things. We were way, way too passive after the first 15 mins of the game and considering 352 is what we play when we’re trying to hold the ball more, to utterly fail to do so is abject. Bissouma looks off the pace when he shouldn’t be, and the other two look knackered. I don’t think Perisic is the player to play in big games, frankly, because like Bale on his return to us, the legs aren’t there. We created very little in a system that requires midfield runners because the two who do all the running are keeping going on fumes. Conte’s first season-ish with us was magnificent especially compared to where we’d been when he took over. But his management of the squad has been poor so far. I know there have been injuries and players adapting but there have been some really confounding decisions. He has more than the right to show us he can turn it around but games like this do raise questions he needs to answer on the pitch. Big reaction needed at the weekend.
Summer transfer window wasn’t as good as we all thought then. £25 mill for bissouma looked like a bargain but was at least £20 mill to much. Perisic, taken the odd decent corner but done nothing else. should have signed kulusevski in the summer as he won’t be staying without champions league football. Conte wanted investment in a squad he doesn’t even use. Levy won’t be so forthcoming next time.
Kane ain’t signing one in my opinion and I won’t blame him either. It’s gonna be on the club if they wanna cash-in or get a final year out of him.
And we've got an impressive looking Newcastle, who'll probably buy the whole country in the meantime.
I do hope Conte doesn't take this result as an excuse to say "See? 352 doesn't work, we do things my way" I honestly don't believe that he would, as I'd expect that attitude from the ubermensch, but at the same time tonight did show that playing 352 is an issue when we run two of our CMs into the ground and only have one CM on the bench if those minutes catch up with them
It's worth noting that Conte;s Inter often played 3412 ...and that little nugget of information makes it clear why there's a disconnect between midfield and the front this season, as we're playing like we have somebody in the hole when we don't - especially with Kane pushing up so high when he's been the player in the hole the previous couple of seasons
I hate losing to this lot, just as much as I loathe losing to Arsenal. However, what has happened to Son's Strength? he is looking decidedly weak and is too easily brushed aside. When he's not face down on the grass, his corners are now hardly making the six yard box. Has he visited Delilah.
And Spence looked bright when he came on for about three seconds, too. One of them won't make the squad.
The saddest thing is he was probably our second best player after Lloris… and it isn’t saying much but everyone else made a ton of mistakes, he made just one or two.
Just to go off on a slight tangent, was there any need for that Ronaldo strop? Purely performative, as the game was over and he only had to wait a minute or two. Made himself look right a right twat. Not sure that was what he was going for.
You have to give credit to United but we were awful. This 4 subs on at once is a bad move IMO it just looks like Conte forget he could use subs and then chucked them all on at once. Surely at 70 mimutes we should have changed things because nothing was coming from Spurs, nothing.
Bruised ego I’d imagine. Doesn’t wanna be there for a start but probably didn’t like the fact Utd dominated us without him.
Lloris is the only one who can hold his head up high after this dismal performance. Conte continues the downward spiral of losing his allure amongst some of us. His management of the squad is poor. He appears not to analyse opponents and attempt to take advantage of any deemed weaknesses. He was reluctant to play 3 in midfield and only did so due to injuries. I saw no effort from him to try and win the game and it looked like his approach was to play for a draw, which in fairness would have been a good result but the best form of defence is to attack. Sorely lacking any intent tonight. Disappointing.
