It's been posted on social media that John McPhail has had a fall and is in a coma. Here's hoping he makes a speedy and full recovery

Wishing you a speedy recovery John - if we'd had someone like you in your prime we'd have been out of this league long ago.

    Bloody hell man.

Get well John, plenty rooting for you. In your absence we are doing okay, but if I had to describe one player we could do with right now it would be you.

    Get well soon John.

Can still see him now, arms aloft in front of the Roker End, after scoring the penalty vs Northampton....the game we won the league last time we were in this **** league.

Very sad, life can be cruel sometimes. He must have sustained some serious injuries.
Done well for us and took a cracking penalty. Hope he gets sorted, be nice if the club stepped in to help.

Former professional footballer has to ask for just giving for something like this. Shows how different the game is now. Happily helped her out

I was thinking the same about how different money is in the game these days.

Also got me thinking is there not a charity connected to the pfa to help out with stuff like this?

I'm sure the PFA will be able to help out. Excellent spirit and generosity of our fans shown in this mind....proud to be among the number.
Reminds me though, thinking of John....tough,no nonsense centre half...Denis Smith loved him...was just what we needed to bounce straight back that year. Think it was something like Chesterfield away, he had the ball at the edge of our box, going to clear with a boot upfield and his standing leg moved the ball so his kicking leg went straight through fresh air....had to laugh!<laugh> Was a sort of moment Nos had at Boro with his attempted backpass...unforgettable!<laugh>
