Good Morning. It's Tuesday 11th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Gnonto on target as U21's soar Leeds U21's had to work hard to overcome a stubborn Sunderland team, brimming with first team players, at the Stadium of light last night. The Wearside outfit were still no match for Michael Skubala's side with Wilfred Gnonto taking the plaudits with a second half strike to keep Leeds unbeaten start to the season intact, and stretch their lead at the top of the table. After the game, a delighted Skubala was quick to praise his team, not just for their three points, but a solid defensive performance, with Kris Moore being singled out for special treatment. “A top test for both teams,” “They had a good team out, we had a good team out and we knew it'd be a strong game. “They've got some really good players on loan from big clubs and they've got tricky wingers. I thought the first half was a real sort of open but toe to toe game and then I thought, second half, we dominated. We'd got inside, changed a few things and tidied up a few things and I thought we were good." “Kris Moore has really sort of taken a leadership role on to organise because he's probably the most consistent one in the team. Morton's come in alongside him and I think he's done really well. I think he did really well today, he was tackling, he was heading, but also his balls forward were superb, so he’s had a real good game. “Harvey was really good until he had to go off of injury and then Cody, I think goes under the radar, but he's had three really top games and against that good winger (Jewison Bennette), Cody was controlling him. So as a back four, they were really good today.” 120 free kicks conceded in eight games Leeds have conceded 120 free kicks so far this season, prompting concern that Jesse Marsch's players need to smarten up their act, if they are to avoid the drop, come May. No team work harder on the pitch than Leeds, yet giving the ball away cheaply or conceding unnecessary free kicks have cost them dearly. Whilst Leeds have seen vast improvement this season from defending set pieces, especially aerially, the vast number of fouls conceded (in dangerous areas) are giving the opposition cheap points. please log in to view this image Leeds passing ability causing concern Latest statistics from Whoscored.com suggest that whilst Leeds are enjoying more possession on the ball and better aerial supremity, their passing has gone awry and are having few shots at goal. Only Southampton and Fulham have a poorer passing record in the top flight, whilst possession wise, Leeds make the top eight. In layman's terms, Leeds are having to work harder to stay in possession. When they lose the ball, they are incredibly efficient in getting it back, but are having to exert a lot of energy in doing so. please log in to view this image
The free kicks we give away are because its like watching playground football, too frenetic and disjointed. Lots of energy and running around but giving the ball away and not getting it back and its garbage to watch. Bielsaball was a dream to watch, but when it went wrong it went badly wrong. We played little triangles on either side of ghe pitch at speed and when the fast pass worked it was great to see. Under Marsch we dont do the fast triangles we overload one side of the pitch and try and press but its easy to bypass as one side is left wide open and a crossball pass or one over the top leaves us vulnerable at the back. Hopefully Marsch can slow down the passing to ensure we get more pass completion, but over the last 5 games its dropped off causing frantic tackling and fouls. Every team knows we are going to run and press and it seems our tactics are countered, maybe we should have a plan B
Probably more than half of those free kicks conceded we're given because of the ineptitude of the bent refs that we have in the Premier league and some from diving players conning those same useless refs the likes of villa and palarse have in their teams. Morning everyone.
Morning all. Watched a big chunk of the villa forest debacle last night. Rubbish as usual from Villa. Early in the season but its already fairly obvious there are about ten poor outfits this season and its going to be a toss of a coin as to who goes down. Were as poor as any of them and as toothless
Morning all Basically, what Doc has said already. I'd like to add to that; when we do win a ball in the overloaded opposition half (like in the first half against Palace) it is so congested there often isn't a simple pass on or you need to pass it to a player that has a defender a couple of feet away. It's okay mastering a high press but when you haven't the attacking quality to make the won possession count the opposition just watch us run about like headless chickens waiting for us to hand it back
Might as well have kept big Kev as well be footing the bill probably anyway. Villa have some supposed quality and they can't create or finish anything either
As sharp as a samurai sword, the wit on here sometimes & i like it,(even though my tea is now down my front) one of the many reasons it's the best board on not606.
Good Morning to all from a sunny chilly Bardsey I see that Cody says he doenm.t want to join Leeds in Jan so why waste anymore time on him like we did with Charles DK
Why is Harrison so hit and miss? Precisely this, massive congestion down the left and Harrison seen as a problem so get doubled up on. Why dont we mix it up and use the right side …… Aaronson was out there but has to come inside to get involved, Sinisterra has to come inside too so Kristensen almost redundant. Having the whole team trying to pass in a congested footprint
That's chuffing awful. Nearly all of their player have better pass completion than our starting lineup. That shows that they're poor passers or passing into difficult spaces.
This is really interesting. Leeds are much stronger left-footed, than right footed. In fact, only Bournemouth are weaker on their right peg, whilst only Liverpool, Arsenal and Citeh are stronger on their left foot.
Jeez guys, we play a swarm press to win the ball with the strategy to then move the ball forward quickly through the middle. Stats say most goals are scored in transition through the middle. That’s the theory and that’s the strategy. we also put the ball into areas where we’re happy the try and win it back if it goes astray, so it isn’t considered a disaster to lose possession so of course our pass stats look sh*t the aim isn’t to get great pass stats by rolling it across the back for for 5 minutes. The aim is to win football matches… which obviously we’re not doing either
