That's a 'meh' performance encapsulated. Some passes, a couple of half chances, a possible penalty, and a lot of sterile possession. The problem for me is there seems to be a lack of confidence. For a team that want to play that tiki-taki type football, our passing is very average. Ignoring some of the more blatant bad passing, we seem to simply put the ball half a yard behind a running winger, forcing them to check back, collect and find the defenders are between them and the goal. Decision making is quite often poor, or at best, opting for an easy pass that goes nowhere. I guess we all knew when the window closed we hadn't got enough players in, and up front we are desperately short of options. So we continue to be mediocre. Maybe a win would get the players to strut a little. A couple of injuries and we're in trouble.
We're in trouble already, 2 points off the relegation spots and closing in. If we play 4-4-2 we have to play Leaburn and Stockley for 90 minutes. Thomas is reducing entrance fee by a fiver, but that will do nothing until we start winning. Morale must be very low at the club. Credible allegations of a culture of bullying, blatant nepotism, abandonment of any ambition to get promoted in the next couple of years and a general feeling of apathy at The Valley. It's all gone sour for Thomas- as Jimi Hendrix said "Castles made of sand slip in the sea.....eventually"
The damage was done in the transfer window. We needed a striker and we didn't get one. Hopefully Aneke can pop up with a goal or two before his next injury. We are totally lacking in confidence. A win or two will boost our morale.
It was nice at the time, but the 5-1 win against Plymouth in August probably cursed our season. Sandgaard at the time was clearly thinking why buy a striker or invest before the window closes if we’re winning games 5-1
