Huddersfield has been a settlement for over 4,000 years and can be found in the 'Domesday Book' of 1086 under the name of “Oderesfelt and Odresfeld.” From Oder, which is a Norse person's name and field.

Rugby League was first formed in Huddersfield in 1895.

Home of Britain's largest nodding dog.

The first Yorkshire Terrier was born here.

Produced the aptly named LSD 3 wheeled car, which is the rarest car in Britain.

From 1868 until 1974 the area now known as Huddersfield was run by the Huddersfield Corporation, one of six county boroughs not ruled by the West Riding County Council.

In October 1919, it agreed to buy the 4300-plus acres on which the town was built from the Ramsden estate who had owned it for centuries. The purchase - which was nearly half the land within the Borough boundary and the whole of the town centre - cost £1.3 million. The deal was struck via locally-born entrepreneur Sam Copley and finalised a year later, on 29 September 1920.

Huddersfield Town were the first English team to win the league 3 times in a row.

There are over 3,000 listed buildings in Huddersfield, the third highest number in the country, and over 200 of them are in the town centre.

The world’s largest contemporary music festival takes place in Huddersfield every year.

The Sex Pistols performed their last ever UK gig in Huddersfield, performing at Ivanhoe’s nightclub on Christmas Day 1977.

The government campaign that crushed the Luddite movement was provoked by a murder that took place in Huddersfield. William Horsfall, a mill-owner and a passionate prosecutor of Luddites, was killed in 1812.

Kirklees Council was the first in the UK to have a Green Party Councillor.

We were meant to be there on Sunday but circumstance has dictated otherwise.

Nothing here to be remotely concerned about. They’re ****, we’re not. The winning streak will continue.

In 4 years they won the Cup once and the league 3 times. Which as I like to remind fans of TWS equals their trophy haul in over 100 years. And Huddersfield’s record crowd in a little town is 10,000 higher.
After Leeds City was kicked out of the league there was a proposal to merge with Huddersfield, they both played in blue and white stripes, and be based in Huddersfield. Shame that never happened. We could have had people in FC shirts sat in pubs cheering Udders on and Hull and East Yorkshire Terriers.

When was the last time we won on TV? I seem to recall a win against Swansea with Bowen getting a couple, which tells you how long ago that was.

Not sure if it’s still the same as it used to be, but check the local classified section. Probably easier though to just google to find one.

Seem to have played a lot of rugby league on that pitch?

Ah yes, next post down - "Rugby League was first formed in Huddersfield in 1895", and played on that pitch on a daily basis ever since.

Went to that game. I was living in Leeds and found it wasn’t a good idea to arrive back at Leeds station with a City scarf on and be mistaken for a Wolves fan,<laugh>

No mention of the infamous "Bubble". It unified the many City message boards and fanzine producers. Not for the last time. The success in overturning the police policy cum decision on bubbles probably gave all concerned the great confidence to unify again to fight the name change.
