Shortly after 8pm yesterday, we were alerted by the ambulance service to a report of a teenage boy in the Aycliffe Crescent area of the Springwell Estate, Gateshead, being seriously injured. Emergency services attended the scene and located the teenager, who had suffered an injury consistent with having been caused by a bladed article. He was taken to hospital where, despite the best efforts of medics, he sadly passed away in the early hours of this morning. His family are being supported by specially-trained officers at this devastating time. An investigation was immediately launched, and a 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody. Meanwhile, a 13-year-old girl has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and also remains in custody. Chief Superintendent Helena Barron said: “A teenage boy has sadly died and his family have been left devastated beyond belief. Our thoughts are very much with his loved ones at this time and we are supporting them in every way we can. “We are determined to find out exactly what happened and a full investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. “We have arrested two teenagers in relation to the incident and officers remain in the area to carry out a range of enquiries and offer reassurance to the community. “While incidents of this nature are rare in our region, whenever they do occur we are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.” She added: “We would ask the public not to speculate on details of the investigation. “What might seem like an innocent post on social media to you, could in reality disrupt an on-going investigation and cause further upset to the family of the victim. “We would ask that if you did see something or have information in relation to what has happened, please come forward directly to officers.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20221003-0995.
What's wrong with kids today, when I was 14 all I wanted to do after school was play football with my mates round at the Colliery Welfare. Were is today's young society heading?
14 years old man! My son turned 15 a few weeks ago and I cannot imagine ANY scenario where he'd carry a knife or think this sort of behaviour is normal. He still gets out of his bike and plays football with his mates. NOt saying my lad is necessarily a typical 14/15yo but this is so shocking to read.
God bless the bairn, by god his parents will be in bits. Not far from me and a similar age to my youngest, it really is scary to think these scumbags are on the streets. It is time to hold the parents responsible who are breading these rats.
No it's time to make the punishment for carrying a knife a lot harsher. Currently maximum of 4 years in prison, unlimited fine or both. Needs to be a minimum of 4 years in prison, no ifs and buts maybes. They are carrying these knives with the intention that they will kill with them.
I will take a guess that the kid responsible has been in and out of trouble with the law, more than likely so will the parents. Name being bandied about pretty much confirms this as well. The most trouble I got into was at 13 and it was for shoplifting, I still carry the shame to this day and thats down to how I was brought up. I never crossed the doors unless it was for school for the entire summer holidays and I was made to apologise to every person that worked in that shop, my mam in particular was ashamed of me, I swore I would never do that to her again. That is down to knowing whats right and wrong and thats the parents main responsibility. Anyway I will say a prayer for the lad tonight, RIP.

Really sorry for the young lad whose died, can’t imagine the suffering his mam and dad are going through. What you’ve said actually backs up what I said, you had lovely parents, yet you were shoplifting by the age of 13.
Imo this is all to do with the prisons being underfunded, short staffed and crumbling. Cheaper and easier to let criminals have another chance than put them in prison and spin it as something else.
Been saying for years we need to build more prisons and lock more people up, especially repeat offenders. Including anti social behaviour and bullying. Its about time our streets were cleared of all this SCUM. In my job, I see how the youth is everyday. Whilst most are good and law abiding, there’s an increasing element of despicable behaviour, because they know they’re untouchable. In my day you’d get yer lugs well and truly battered. It completely beats me why even the do gooders want them on the streets, it wouldn’t bother me a jot if they got life, once they are away they are off the street.

And knowing they’re untouchable gives them more and more confidence and bravado to act worse and worse. We do them no favours letting them off - as they get worse and older the point will be reached where there is no other option than to imprison - we are helping them throw their lives away
I was just hinting to where it leads, someone might of talked you into doing it ( a bit of shop lifting) the next lad might not of been so nice.
This sort of behaviour is bred in schools and through circle of friends. I highly doubt kids are learning to stab people in the family home. Springwell Estate has always been notorious, mind.
