Has anyone heard about the paintjob that Howe decided was important inside the training ground and St James'? Apparently he felt the dark black motif that the previous owners wanted gave the club a depressing attitude, so he's lightened it up, small psychological things to bring up the mood when he came in. He's clever, I wouldn't have thought about it. But it's a fact that those things do effect a workforces mindset.
Flipside, if we win, have we had a good start to the season? Would be 8 league games in and only 1 defeat (and that away to Liverpool), plus still in the cup.
The answer is no. It’s been an ok start. But if we lose that’s 1 win in 8 and that was against Forrest. That’s Bruce standards.
Yeah, every game is a game we ideally need to win. But this one isn't "must win". And not winning it doesn't make our start to the season bad, just OK.
I suppose if we can draw every game this season we will probably not get relegated. Even after spending 200m.
If results go against us we could be bottom six. Equally we could be top 8 if we win. That’s why I think a lot hinges on this game. Lose and I feel it’s been a poor start to the season given the money we have spent. However we have had injuries and our squad depth is ****.
200m isn't going to suddenly make us amazing. Lots of other teams have spent big over those 2 transfer windows. And we had a decade of underspending vs most other teams, so our squad depth was (still is) way behind. Injecting 200m isn't like waving a magic wand. IT'S. A. LONG. TERM. PLAN. BE. PATIENT.
I’m patient. I just think we shouldn’t just have blind blinkers on. We should assess it for what it is. 1 win in 7 and the aim of the game is to win. Lose again and it’s 1 win in 8. I am sorry but Bruce would have been crucified for that if he has spent 200m!!!
