They hung on to Löw for too long. Needed a fresh start, which they are only now doing. Too early thus world Cup, but in 2 and 4 years I think they will be back to normal.

Decent players but several are out of form (as are Bayern) and the defence isn't as good as it was.

England were so much better when they brought on Saka and Mount, two players actually willing to run with the ball and take someone on (before that is was Maguire, lost the ball up pitch and we conceded). England were too rigid and conservative with their passing, so needed to up the pace and do something different to break the lines.

I think it is also worthwhile to now and again give a long ball up to Kane for knockdowns, he's good at it and so long as he has runners, its a tactic that will come off occasionally and force the defence/block to drop off a bit.

90% of time nobody was willing to play the ball forward as a pass, it was 9 or 10 back and just clearing it.

The rare times there was 3 breaking forward the rest would not go at all. Example was when dier went off on a run and rather than go with sterling actually stopped dead and wouldn't go.

    It's amazing.

England boss Gareth Southgate feels Trent Alexander-Arnold's "all-round game" is behind that of right-back rival Kieran Trippier.

The Liverpool full-back was left out of Monday's 3-3 Nations League draw with Germany, and Southgate said he explained the situation to him.

Chelsea's Reece James started the game with Newcastle's Trippier on the bench.

"I've had long conversations with all of them [who have been left out]," Southgate said.

"The other night [against Italy], we didn't need the left-back cover. Against Germany we did because of the way we went with the team so we needed Chilly [Ben Chilwell] on the bench and we had Kieran who, at the moment, I feel his all-round game is ahead [of Alexander-Arnold]."

Alexander-Arnold has been a key player for a Liverpool side that have won the Premier League and Champions League in recent years but he has struggled to transfer that form to international football and has won just 17 caps since his 2018 debut.

So a VERY clear message from the negativity police.

    1. Reece james no 1 RB.
    2. Walker clearly RCB or RB
    3. Trippier seen as the LWB/LB cover and RB no 2/3
    4. Shaw and chilwell seen as LBs.
    5. Trent can go **** himself.

So if he needs any more kicks up the backside to do the work off the ball (chase, track, work) or make those runs up and down the line to over lap that would be good.

I think that part of Trent's problem is that he doesn't and hasn't had an understudy so hasn't had to fight for his place in the Liverpool team. His main motivation seemed to be his competition with Robbo and that too isn't as intense. Did he have a drop off after having Covid like some of the others? Once he's back to his best for us he may get more England time. Selfishly I'm happy for him to not play for England with the risks to injury that brings but I know that playing for the national team means a lot to him personally.

On another note - full on conspiracy mode switched on - does Southgate appear to have something against Liverpool players?

Or just like 99% of players he’s going through a blip. He is only 23 still, just forget that sometimes as he’s been first choice for last 4/5 years. 3 or which we were so dominant that his defending wasn’t overly tested. He’s never been the best defender, some of the stuff goes way over the top though.

The lack of competition probably doesn’t help. All the press around it prob doesn’t help. And let’s not forget the whole team is in poor form so it’s not just him. It’s just highlighted more because seems to be an easy target.

Dare I say, if he was white would he be getting such stick as well?

I agree with this Not sure about the race thing though.

Well Maguire's white and if anything he's getting more stick. Fans and the press just generally love to build people up and knock them down again. May be a certain amount of anti-Liverpool sentiment in some quarters though.

    Agree with all the rest.
