As the violence increases in Manama and surrounding areas should the GP be changed/ditched?

I don't think Bahrain will be replaced, just postponed.

If things don't settle down, I expect the season opener to be at Albert Park.

Right, I haven't been able to get online all day due to sixth forming, so here's what I have to say on the WHOLE story.

I would not like to see Bahrain and I think the protesters are rather selfish. They may seem a little hypocritical, cause I'd be all for a protest against the government on the UK, but it's for different matters, and it's postponing a worldwide event adored by millions. But if they have to stop it because of rampaging hooligans (police as well), then put the safety of teams and drivers first,as they are visitiors to this country.

We couldn't have people getting onto the track, obviously. It happened in around 2001 at Brazil, and a dog got onto the track at Turkey 2008 in the GP2 series which Bruno Senna hit. That caused a lot of damage to the car, and it would be a disaster if some imbecile risked a driver's life running onto the track.

If the race is switched, I think it would be best to go to Abu Dhabi, Korea, Singapore, or any of the Middle-Eastern tracks. If it goes to Europe or America, i'm sure the environmentalists would be on Bernie's case again. Despite that, and what I think should happen, it should go to tracks that previously held a race - so Magny-Curs, A1 Ring, Kyalami, Jerez and Nurburgring (by the way, what was the reason they stopped racing at Jerez, becuase I'm too young to have seen it!).

As we saw last year with the South Korean GP almost not happening, missing one race could change the whole championship, as the title leader misses the chance to get an extra advantage, so I don't ant it to happen. The Bahrain track is actually quite good for driving on (F1 2010), but it produces no overtaking. It's a real test to the drivers at 2:00.00 a lap, and from what i've heard form teams and the BBC crew, it is a very friendly place. It would be a big shame if we were to lose it from the championship.

They're using the short version of the track this year as far as I'm aware. They should scrap it after this year; it always provides a **** opening race and now there's all this political unrest. Magny Cours back next year please. <ok>

    Are you crazy???

Magny cours is worse than Bahrain with literally no overtaking chances and Bernie tried to get it back for 2010 but the French Government declined.

They should just go straight to Melbourne if they abandon bahrain.

Nah, there was very close racing there, and it was the only track I could dominate on racing games! The track wasn't wide enough, which is probably why there wasn't much overtaking, but the constant flow of corners made it very competitive. In 1999/2000, it rained like a bitch there, and lead to a very good race. Heinz Harold Frentzen won it in the end. I would compare it to Spa in that if it rained, it would be an exceptionally good race, but still an interesting race if it was dry. With the closer competition we are seeing over the past 2 years, due to regulation changes, I think it would be very exciting there

Its a good circuit no doubt with 2 fast chicanes but its not a overtaking track and IMO wouldn`t be a good place to start the F1 season.

They wouldn't start it in a European country anyway. Considering the 2nd, 3rd and 4th races are normally Australia, Malaysia and China, there would be no point staying in Europe/flying to Europe for one race only to fly to the other side of the world. The environment has become a big issue with F1, and to reduce all these emissions, it is best to do Middle Eastern and European races in separate blocks.

SO if it would be anywhere, it would be near to Bahrain, but I would like it in Europe, even though that isn't really a possibility.

Looks like Bahrain is on the verge of being cancelled, its a small place and protesters can travel anywhere without breaking a sweat, it's come up on Aljazeera News channel 514 on Sky... Verging on a different 1st GP my friends.
