If tufan and seri are working hard in training, then why aren't they doing it in a game. If they aren't doing it in training, they need dropping from the team. Maybe as subs they will earn their places back
So that would be GK, Back 4 (or 5), Doc, Woods, Slater, Longman, Oscar, Vale Well that isn't going to happen is it!!!
If the solution to our problems is to drop all the talented new players and go back to playing limited ones, then I can't see how we can hope to finish any higher than we did with those sorts of players last season. I think there's a little bit of overreaction on here to our recent form. Swansea was awful and I do think Shota probably should go, but giving up on all of our marquee signings seems like throwing the baby out with the bathwater to me.
I think you can play one of the talented new players in midfield but not two. Jones, Seri & Slater (in 4,3,3 - 4,5,1) with Doc & Tufan as subs is a possibility but you really need wide players (Longman wide left & Pelcas wide right?) but you need subs here as well (Williams & Vale?) Maybe play Tufan with Seri as a sub. Tell them to give it all in 45 minutes then replace them. 5,3.2 means playing fullbacks as wing backs so we have no serious attacking width and makes thing harder in midfield. Tricky, then there is Simons & Sinik to consider when fit.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard is the saying isn’t it… Figureido has justified being dropped, Seri has been disappointing. Not giving up on them but they’re not pulling their weight.
If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing well. If it is worth having, it is worth waiting for. If it is worth attaining, it is worth fighting for. If it is worth experiencing, it is worth putting aside time for.
I think we all agree with dropping Figuereido, and many will agree with dropping Seri too. The latter might not even be much of a choice in fact, if he's only arriving back in the country the day before our game. It's the talk of dropping everyone and going back to last year's team and the pining for the likes of Smallwood, that I'm disagreeing with.
You have to build a team first. Then the supposedly better players can break into it. Solve the most important problems, bleeding chances, shipping goals, being far too easy to play through, lack of bite in midfield. Build a foundation, set standards that must be met, then you can bring fancy players into the fold, and they must meet those standards too, rather than setting the new lows we’ve seen recently. A team is more than the sum of its parts and 11 talented individuals doesn’t make one.
Of course all of that is true, but going back to 11 League One players can't be the answer either. We've done a season of that and just about stayed up while barely scoring a goal. If expectations are higher now, then we're going to have to find a way to make it work with better players.
If Jones is fit - I’d play him as CDM for now. Centre halves Greaves and McLoughlin. Figs in the canteen serving cake and coffee.
Don't be surprised if the claim is that Figs has used the break to 'get his head together' and starts v Luton.
I’m not pining for Smallwood. I’m pining for a midfielder who did a similar role to Smallwood but better. We don’t have one.
It's all about balance, there certainly needs to be more energy in midfield, but you need to find the right blend of quality and work rate. All successful teams have a balance of both, we just need to find the right combination. Sometimes, the first time you don't get the balance right, and come January this can be adjusted, by bring in players which are needed to get the balance right.
This is what I'm saying. We need our better players to perform. To start with that might have to be off the bench. Shotta knows if these players are working in training. If not .why not and if they are ,then why not in matches. This is shotta's job and he's making a pigs ear of it at the moment and certain players are letting him and us down
