......and out of those games any reasonable person would have written off the games against Man City and Liverpool, been happy with a draw away to Wolves and Brighton and should probably have expected a win against either Palace or Bournemouth and expected a ****ty penalty decision or VAR decision to go against us in the other. It's not exactly panic station times. It's laterally 2 disappointing results where we struggled to break down teams who sat 9 players on their 18-yard box.

We will be perfectly fine. Its all part of the learning process.

I think this season is a bit of a funny one, partially as we are in transition with the investment, so depending how quick the players gel I'd say we could finish anywhere between 6-13. However, the World Cup mid-season will have a huge mental and physical impact on a lof of players, so could de-rail a lot of the teams packed with international players, luckily we aren't one of them, with probably only a handful of players involved.

    - We can score cos we did in the last match.
    - Saying we've won once is a massive negative spin as we've only lost once as well and should have got the Palace win.
    - Just cos we might have started slowly doesn't mean everything has gone to **** - look at the likes of Leicester and West Ham for real problems.

We're obviously in a far better position than this time last season and "only 4 points better off" is a particularly meaningless stat to throw around after 7 games. After the first game we were only 3 points better off than this time last season.

The injuries will continue all season its the reason newcastle won't get into the top 8..

They come back others get injured and they get injured again.

I keep saying the same thing and it's that the likes of Fraser Longstaff Murphy and Lascelles will play throughout the season not jury until max is back in October.

It's a squad game newcastle only have a good 11 which will hinder them for another season before it starts to snowball.

It's not doom and gloom it's just the way it is really. If people think newcastle will get Wilson and max back and their perfect 11 will play all season then I'm going to have advise against that idea

Ultimately it'll be another up and down season.

Some injuries are less concerning than others. ASM is the key really. If everyone is fit and he is not, then we have big problems. If we are missing a few players but ASM plays then it matters less. He is our only real attacking threat. If he played against Bournemouth, instead of Bruno or Joelinton, we would have won.

This is the key issue with our squad. We need depth on the wings first and foremost. Without another penetrating winger, we won't achieve much.

No, it IS all doom and gloom!

What basis do you have to say the injuries will continue? Longstaff, Fraser etc are just as likely to get injured as the others, so why will they play all season?

Other teams have injuries too - onoy really City can replace any player, look at what happened at Liverpool when Van Dijk got injured.

Why are Wilson and ASM the reason we we will do well? Wilson was injured when we were on form last season and ASM was one of the players critisiced most last season. With Bruno, Isak, Botman, Joelinton, Pope, Trippier etc, Wilson and ASM are hardly integral to our success.

And its not even like we've started badly ffs, we're 10th (should be 7th), without getting into first gear yet....why are things going to get worse?

No it's actually just my explanation.... You've got your prediction at 6 or 7th and I haven't told you that you're being delusional or overly optimistic have I?

I hope you're correct mate, but I've made my call and gone with the lower end of what seems most are going for which is 8th - 10th...

Let's just see you can't prove yourself right at this stage mate :emoticon-0148-yes:

Well if course no one can prove themselves right at this stage as its way too early, Liverpool are in 8th place at the moment FFS.

Just a prediction of being in the lower half of the table is clearly pessimistic, as it says there's no improvement position wise from last season, despite the fact we were on fire at the end of last season and have added first team players to that team.

I don't agree I think 11th when committed to cups is not that bad at all..

Injuries will continue its part of the game

But why should a cup run be at the expense of a league position? It isn't one or the other.

I fully expect us to be are normal selves and go out and of the cups early, but if we don't, and say, get to the league cup semis, then 11th place in the league would still be a huge disappointment.

There's a section of the fan base who really need to relax. Right now progress is about so much more than league position. Amanda and co are having to undo 14 years of neglect. We just need to get behind the club and help them on the journey. Every other side in this very difficult league is trying to do exactly the same thing. Sure if we've played crap we should call it out, discuss why etc but any of this talk about how long Howe is going to last (when he's going a great job btw) or criticism of the owners for not doing enough in the market when we are only 12 months into this project is nuts. It's a massive job turning this club into a side that is regularly competing for European positions / cups etc. I think we'll get there but it's going to take a while. It is possible to get maybe as high as 7th this year but likely will be somewhere between 10th - 7th and that would be a good showing. Unlike last year it looks like sides like Arsenal and Man Utd (jury still out on that one) have turned a corner so that makes it considerably more difficult.

It just will mean more injuries and more fixture congestion.. Like I say this is why I'm shooting around 11th because the squad will be tested more and I don't think newcastle have any real depth in any position bar maybe cb.

We gave Liverpool a huge test without Bruno,Wilson and ASM and with Longstaff, Laseceles and Fraser playing. We had an amazing run last season with no real striker and with ASM out of sorts.

All teams get injuries and can pull together, we are no different to any other team in that respect, ie Spurs don't assume Kane and Son will get crocked at any second and their team will be down to the bare bones. As I said, only City really can replace every team member with another first choice player.

The bet was made yesterday mate... I hope you're right, but it's going to take more than a close loss and a draw where City missed 3 one on ones to convince me.

Also I keep trying to explain the situation with squad depth.

My expectation is that we won't sell our best players and have angle for a move by doing things like going on strike.

I also expect that we'll properly try for cups or blame fear of relegation for putting out our kids.

League position - definitely top half and hope (not expect) even get into top six.
My last expectation is that the players, management and owners will be on the same side, all trying from their various positions to make us better over the next few years.
