Johnny Mapson. The first keeper I ever saw at Roker Park and he looked impregnable. He was our first choice keeper for nearly 20 years thought that was interrupted with our argument with Germany.I Can anyone imagine any player given that length of unbroken service nowadays?
Shay Givens stint on loan at us from Blackburn is definitely worth a mention. He won us loads of points and kept a lot of clean sheets. Only 19 at the time and hadn't been tarnished by them lot at that point.
Really let his career down in my eyes going there, instead of being one of the best he became a ****er straight away . He was class Given like.
If we're talking about goalkeepers who played for us, then I nominate Leigh Richmond Roose. No one on here will have seen him play as he died over 100 years ago but he was a superstar of his day so must have been decent. He's the reason goalkeepers are only allowed to handle the ball in their own penalty area. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leigh_Richmond_Roose
He hasn't even offered an opinion himself on his own thread, which is nonsensical, and in the title it doesn't even say whether it's supposed to be for S.A.F.C. or every 'keeper that there's ever been in the world Haway, OGO Young Jordan or Chris Turner in my time . . . . with an honourable mention to Monty
Favourite goalkeeper for Sunderland is Sorensen. The most talented goalkeeper I've seen at Sunderland is Craig Gordon. He was truly world class.
Never took to Craig Gordon, Stoke away second half he was a disgrace, think he took us for a ride tbh. Jimmy Montgomery for me , that Cup Final nailed it forever.
The best there is - Allison. The best there ever was - Neuer. Shout out to Cech who might have got the nod if Neuer didn't reinvent the position.
